If your teen is struggling to make sense of current world events, this excellent novel by @ClareFurniss is an intelligent, insightful and (sadly) plausible story of how right-wing populism can take hold. A cautionary tale, but most importantly, a story of hope and empathy.

Cork County Council Library & Arts Service is delighted to reveal that ‘Freya Harte is Not a Puzzle’, written by Irish author Méabh Collins and published by O’Brien Press, has been selected as our 2024 ‘One County, One Book’ read for teens! ‘Freya Harte is Not a Puzzle’ is a touching and captivating story about the experiences of an autistic teenage girl. “Freya’s always felt different, so when she learns she’s autistic she doesn't want anyone to know. All she wants is to fit in. But does she really need to change herself or can she find friends who like her just the way she is? A novel about friendship, discovering who you really are -- and being ok with that!” (O’Brien Press) As part of our annual #OneCountyOneBook programme for teens in the Autumn, we will be encouraging young people aged 15+ all over Cork County to read the book along with us – there will also be opportunities to meet the author in-person and online this November! Copies of ‘Freya Harte is Not a Puzzle’ will be available to borrow in your local Cork County Council Library & Arts Service branch or mobile libraries in the coming weeks. Stay tuned! #OneCountyOneBook2024 #MeabhCollins #AutismAwareness @soundslikewave @Corkcoco @CorkCountyArts @creativeirl @OBrienPress @LibrariesIre

Steady For This is so brilliant, could @NateLessore do it again? Yes! King of Nothing is a funny, hopeful, honest book about friendship, toxic masculinity and growth - a book teens need to read. Closed the book feeling sad to have finished it but better for having read it. 10/10
