I met a family who used to buy LIC policy and make FD of Rs 1 lakh on every birthday of their children and it has been 10 years since they have been doing so. Returns on these investments are a distant dream as inflation and LIC ate up all their returns. The biggest scam that our parents generation fell for was LIC. It locked in their money with little or even negative return for decades. It might've also been the reason why the Indian middle class was never able to create wealth.
