@HowellsDan Yeah, similar. In our context steps on a line from triple extension force to single leg CMJ to lateral movement capability at the table for a table tennis athlete

@Synergy_Para Cool so would that be lunge exercise versus lunge for a shit on court in squash, as an example?

For all the physical profiling work you do with your athletes, you may be missing a fundamental element Is What you see as a strength/weakness physically, expressed in the same way in the technical domain? Lowest CMJ but best person in the air on the field… Lowest MAS but the best midfielder on the pitch… Worst speed - best with the ball at their feet… Always discuss the transfer with your coaches to get the bigger picture

@HowellsDan We are asking the coaches to film a drill that exposes the area of physical change that we are targeting and then tracking it at a few time points to assess what (if anything) changes. The win is accountability instead of just assuming change based on gym progress.

@Synergy_Para Nice one. How do you think you can gain insights, what would be an ideal win in that approach!?

PLEASE SHARE!! I need your help! I’m looking for practitioners that have worked within para sport that are familiar with autonomic dysreflexia or boosting. It’s for my PhD study looking into practitioner perspectives on how to improve policies. 🙂

@Coach_BrettB Having a chance to do a personality profile and taking time with a psychologist to deconstruct the results. Discussing what it might mean for how you're perceived in your world and how you might influence others.

As it pertains to staff development, what themes, needs or topics are top of mind for you? In other words- what are some things you wish were covered more often or with more tactical deep dives?

My approach to understanding programming for a para athlete. Without clarity on the first 2 steps it's easy to get lost in the dark. Then you need to be willing to embrace creativity to find the best way for the athlete

@HowellsDan For CP athletes with high tone we will talk about the warm up or exercise order being about "taking the breaks off" to bring the body to a state where we can make physical change

Analogies are great for bringing to life an area you are educating athletes about What is your favourite analogy for working with athletes or coaches?

@ebakercoach @neurokinex Hey Ed. I've been looking more into this and it would be great to chat a bit about how it works in practice. Any chance you can spare 15 mins for a quick call to chat it through?

I'm investigating some differential training methods for neurologically impaired athletes. Compex/stim is one of the routes for investigation. Anyone use it regularly in para or able bodied athletes and fancy sharing some insight?

2 great people doing great things in this space @Synergy_Para sharing his insight in working with this group of athletes @AliJawad12 providing an app that coaches can use to understand more about para exercise 👉 @accessercise

Within the CS Mentorship Community, I asked this question. Coaches felt least confident about working in Para/disability spaces - citing lack of education, and obviously exposure. Where do people go to learn more in this space? What is covered in uni courses?

Thanks Mike. It was great to have an opportunity to speak to the students about the challenges and opportunities available in para sport. Was really impressed by how engaged the students were

@ebakercoach @HowellsDan Massively agree with this Ed. Like you say a lot of the principals are the same it just takes a little mindset shift. Instead of being the one with the answers you as a coach need to be willing to bring some options and ideas to explore collaboratively

@HowellsDan Agree, it’s a lesser known area, some advice: 1. Principles are same - you’re still working with hardware (muscles, tendons, bones) and software (CNS) and both respond to stimuli 2. Somewhere near you is a Para sport club, almost certainly without S&C support - go volunteer

Looking forward to sharing the joys and challenges of working in para sport with @TalentedAthlete practitioners tomorrow. Key points around performance problem solving, the mindset required and setting up an accessible gym environment
