So happy about this release. Zyphra is still sandbagging a little – doing small models – but here, everything else comes together. Their SoTA architecture ("DSMoE-MLA++"), high-end RL and test-time scaling. Frontier open lab, talented and brave. Best of the West. 80B upcoming.

Today we're releasing ZAYA1-8B, a reasoning MoE trained on @AMD and optimized for intelligence density. With <1B active params, it outperforms open-weight models many times its size on math and reasoning, closing in on DeepSeek-V3.2 and GPT-5-High with test-time compute. 🧵

History has officially been made. Catholics are now almost 18% (~17.7%) of the world population 🇻🇦 at a record number of 1.42B According to the Vatican’s latest official records, the global Catholic population has just reached a staggering 1.422 billion baptized members for the very first time. That’s a remarkable jump of 16 million people in just one single year.

I wrote Deep Learning with Python to be the definitive guide to how deep learning works and how to best make use of it. Tens of thousands of people got their career start via this book. 120,000 copies sold, and downloaded by millions more. And now it's free to read online: deeplearningwithpython.io

Still a bit in shock here... Other than my wedding day and the births of my boys, this is probably the coolest and best day ever 🙌 A great friend of the show hand-delivered these pictures from my two oldest sons, along with a Popecast mug and card to Pope Leo earlier today!

“Have faith,” Jesus tells us in the #GospelOfTheDay (Jn 14:1). That is the secret! It is precisely this faith that frees our hearts from the anxiety of possessing and acquiring, and from the illusion that we must pursue a position of prestige to have worth. Each person already has infinite worth in the mystery of God.

@mweinbach @thirishabhy It's misleading, and you clearly don't get the point of the video. avg consumer see M5, want to purchase because it's better than M4, why they compare it to M1? My adult hand is 8x bigger than 10y old kid, like why not 20y old? Avg consumer isn't tech savvy to tell all the Ms

@kepano @karpathy We need markdown 2.0 to accommodate the lack of interoperability between pdf and markdown syntax. Markdown is too stripped down, which was by design, but if we need it as a medium format, we need more syntax.

@karpathy PDFs are exceptionally difficult to convert: 1. they can embed assets that require OCR 2. they can have design choices that are open to interpretation 3. Markdown doesn't really support multi-column layouts

I wrote about Microsoft's Markitdown back in 2024, but it's grown into a big messy project now :/ It would be more valuable if Microsoft provided high-quality official libraries for converting their proprietary formats to Markdown (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx, OneNote, etc). For now Obsidian's Markdown conversion options are: 1. Obsidian Web Clipper for converting URLs 2. Obsidian Importer for converting from apps like Notion, Apple Notes, Google Keep, Microsoft OneNote, Evernote, etc
Vaishnavi@_vmlops

MICROSOFT BUILT A TOOL THAT CONVERTS LITERALLY ANYTHING INTO CLEAN MARKDOWN FOR YOUR LLM pdfs. word docs. excel. powerpoint. audio. youtube urls one pip install and your AI pipeline stops choking on raw files forever no custom parsers. no broken layouts. no garbled text. just clean, structured markdown your LLM can actually read github.com/microsoft/mark…

@AgileJebrim I'm actually interested in your take. What are your recommendations? If you were to lead a team, your rule is designing a performance-oriented programming language, what would be the blueprint, key features, and things you believe current programming languages lacking?

I wasn’t defending C either. C is not perfect. It’s not as portable as some claim. I’ve had access to the Jai beta for years but it doesn’t really push the envelope on performance at all. It focuses more on metaprogramming. All of these new languages just fiddle around on the edges. They don’t actually bring forth the magnitudes of performance improvements that are possible. They still require significant learning curve to pull performance out of a system instead of forcing the user to do solid things. They also don’t do anything to provide the level of rigor needed to guarantee stutter-free, hard real-time determinism (e.g. for safety-critical systems).

c is still the lowest common denominator for cross-platform portability but these languages are solving its pain points: zig: simpler, explicit, no hidden control flow. if something happens, you wrote it. rust: memory safety without garbage collection. the compiler won't let you shoot yourself in the foot. go: simplicity with built-in concurrency. goroutines just work. each took a different approach to the same problem: making systems programming less painful while keeping performance

@Hussein37208 @DD_Geopolitics Such a big lie. Musl!ms radicals from shia and sunni groups are the one who k!lled and drive away Christians. In Baghdad they even took their homes by force. Lets not even talk about isis or mahdi army atrocities against Christians. Don't even dare blaming the USA for this.

@DD_Geopolitics There is an entire Christian faction within the Popular Mobilization Forces. Many Christians are soldiers in the Popular Mobilization Forces because it protects them. America has destroyed Christian communities in Iraq, Palestine, and Syria.

✝️🇮🇶 While the Zionist regime destroys the churches of Gaza and bans Easter celebrations in Palestine, here is a reminder from 2014. After liberating a church destroyed by ISIS in Mosul, fighters of the Popular Mobilization Forces fashioned a cross from two pieces of wood, rang the church bell, and hoisted the Iraqi flag above it in solidarity with Iraq's Christians.

@DD_Geopolitics While it's true that they're part of the Popular Mobilization Forces but they are (the Christian faction). Not Muslims not shia. Keep in mind that the PMF containing factions from all religious groups in iraq, even the Muslims faction have both shia & sunni. Here you see the ✝️.

@_trish_xD They also aren’t GPU-native (although efforts exist to hack some in after the fact), significantly impeding true performance-oriented programming.

@ArcticIke @Pirat_Nation They can't. That basically sending money to a sanctioned country. Even if, somehow, your financial transaction was successful. You will pay a higher fine for the American government for breaking the law.

@Pirat_Nation I mean Twitch is awful, but I do have to respect them not paying a $1100 fine on principal considering how cheap that is as far as corporate fines go. A lot of companies would have just paid it to shut them up.

@NickRicci5 Big L take. The money from weapons selling is what make your defense companies able to research & develop new generations of weapons. It's actually a net positive & continuous stream of revenue. Plus these countries will heavily depends on the USA for all of its defense systems.

@NickRicci5 It is a death trap. No soldier should set foot on that island. The news of the invasion of that island gave Iran time & prior knowledge to turn it into a massacre of as many lives as possible. Any seasoned general would be against this plan.
