TIPS FOR NEW INTERNS CALLING CONSULTS: -Never ever apologize. Especially at night there’s a tendency to lead with “Sorry to bother you.” You can be polite without setting the tone of the conversation immediately on the defensive. “Thank you for taking my call.” 1/x

@GamerEMDoc Makes sense. The whole dance is exhausting but at least Ill have a bunch of reps in before meeting with a program of that caliber (at least initially, I dont really feel any different once they start lol)

If anyone is still hoping to net late IVs at this point, a general tip. I highly doubt many programs interview from Dec 20 to Jan 1st (though obviously this is speculation). And anyone who would have cancelled for an IV before Dec 20 prob already did so based on NRMP rules. So if you plan on sending one last LOI to try to net a last ditch IV, Id suggest doing so after Christmas or right after the new year. IVs will be picking back up, and typically January sees the most cancellations.

Why do academic hospitals put residents on call for OSH EDs but then “can’t give advice” because they are residents? Honest question that seems to happen at a lot of tertiary/quaternary care places.

We live in a wild world where laypeople on X argue with medical professionals about whether or not VFib is a lethal rhythm… #wild

Teaching in EM isn’t a lecture hall. It’s a nod, a question, a quiet correction at 2am.

@drrdemon Just wait until you are talking to the same people as an attending that you talked to as a resident. Why are we this way

The reason we MANDATE vaccines to attend school is because while it is certainly your right to put your own children’s health/lives at risk for your own stupid anti-scientific reasons, you do not have the right to ENDANGER the health/lives of EVERYONE ELSE. This isn’t complicated

We agree with Charlie Kirk on basically nothing. Except that he deserves the right, as every human does, to speak freely without the threat of violence.

Call your surgeon first for any surgical complications unless you believe there is an active emergency. When you do, ask which hospital(s) they practice at and go to that hospital.

Soooo if I’m reapplying to the specialty I didn’t match into, is it frowned upon to re-use a couple LORs from last year or do I need to get entirely new ones

I have never once reread a book. But lately Ive gotten the urge to re-read my favorite novels of adolescence again bc I barely remember them 30 years later. Stephen King’s It and The Stand. Seems like a good idea…

A year ago, I began a small tradition —words and a coin to honor how strangers became family in the hardest, most beautiful way. What started with my own class has grown. Last summer, I gave coins to the faculty who (sometimes against our will) shaped us into emergency medicine
