Remember, Garda press office consciously spun story away from Islamist motivations until such point they were caught out by Gript, video subsequently suppressed by censors. Partisan civic institutions bring a body count if left unchecked.

A self-described jihadist who set fire to a pub owned by Conor McGregor and later stabbed a garda on a Dublin street while shouting 'Allahu Akbar' told detectives he was inspired by the founder of Isis, Musab al-Zarqawi, and had pledged his allegiance to the terrorist organisation. courtsnewsireland.ie/jihadist-who-c…

There’s a recurring pattern in British politics: parties on the right ally w/ Ulster unionism and get burnt Interests can align briefly, then diverge sharply under pressure, GB politics does not transpose to North nevermind dirty tricks inherent to 6.

🚨💥NEW: Reform’s Robert Jenrick says 'Northern Ireland let down over Brexit' during Shankill Road visit 🎥🎤Chief Reporter @jamesgould23 speaking to @reformparty_uk MP @RobertJenrick. 📍He was in Belfast alongside @duponline Leader @GRobinsonDUP. Mr Jenrick says it “pains” him to admit it as a former Conservative, but that government let Northern Ireland down. He says too few Westminster politicians visit Northern Ireland and that people here have a right to feel “neglected.” He was asked how things would change under a potential Reform UK government.

For decades Section 31 shaped what could be said on Irish airwaves. Now the EU’s DSA/EMFA does likewise tailored to combat right of populist right. What does that mean for Irish newsrooms and editorial independence? Mise for @griptmedia gript.ie/the-eus-dsa-an…

Sister Briege McKenna Concerning Priests Q What is your message for priests? Sister Briege: I talk about personal holiness. The crisis in the priesthood is not celibacy; it is faith in Jesus Christ. People who have a relationship with Jesus Christ can't live with sin in their lives. So I pray that they have a living faith in Jesus Christ with the Eucharist in the centre of their lives. The tragedy in Ireland is that there is so much negativity and they get so discouraged. The greatest need is to be a personal witness to Jesus Christ. If their message is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, it will bear fruit. The people are hungry. If you look at any list of retreats, sometimes the person of Jesus isn't even mentioned, but there is nothing like spending time with the Eucharist. It is so easy to be attracted by good things, but leave out the most important thing, which is our prayer life. Read entire article: sisterbriege.com/Irish%20Cathol…

@arisroussinos Above equilibrium assumes the UK remains a coherent political state. The first offramp is a new transatlantic relationship (more US-facing) or clearer place in a new strategic Europe, both have pitfalls. Atm order just about works for inertia ridden Dublin

@arisroussinos Post-Brexit and post-PESCO you've seen some integration of RoI with Continent but ultimately the 26 by nature of its politics (parochialism/allergic to seeing self as strategic actor) can't decouple from yookay. GFA framework locks in intergovernmental cordiality.

Not a dunk, but Ireland’s energy and security dependency on the UK is actually a major issue for Ireland, given Britain’s objective weakness in both areas
James Mc Donnell@JamesMc35751631

@arisroussinos RoI needs a close relationship with U.K. There are 100s of thousands of Irish citizens living in U.K. 70%+ of Ireland’s gas is imported from U.K. 10s of billions of € business annually in goods & trade. Close cooperation in security (esp maritime, air & training). Issue?

@LastGael Think Derry the most 'left wing city' tho much of that tribalism with an ideological veneer. Think how backlash manifests in 6 what matters next, and will define all Ireland response. Something sustained or imported MIGA rhetoric latching onto a crisis.

I think one of the most significant things about the Cork protest, is, for whatever reason, Cork is arguably the most leftist county in the country. So that's almost your floor; your bare minimum. If it changes in Cork, it's going to ripple throughout the entire country.

I never knew that Black Elk was Catholic. Funny to read of this now, after reading Black Elk Speaks as a teenager and seeing him as some kind of a hippy-dippy pagan earth spiritualist figure. The guy loved the Latin Mass, prayed the Rosary every day. Had no idea!
