@kamilkazani He fell into the same trap as RU in UA and bit off way more than he can chew. Both were encouraged after near flawless operations in Crimea and Venezuela and tried to replicate their success with other (larger) targets they fatally thought would be just as soft.

I think Trump has tremendously miscalculated with Special Operation and would love to TACO, but the Israeli won't let him to. So, he just doesn't know what to do. The ideas he is coming up with (like adding another layer of blockade to Hormuz) seem like a desperate improvisation

Oh FFS, not Trump with that "no cards" line again. 🤦‍♀️ He said Zelenskyy had "no cards" last year, and was quite clearly wrong about that. This probably means Iran's in a stronger position than he's willing to admit, and he's mad about it.

@WokeMitt @Kasparov63 I'm sure he knows by now that no amount of flattery will win him over, but he needs to look like a reasonable actor for the US to keep arms flowing to UA until the clock runs out on this administration.

Zelenskyy's credibility comes from moral leadership of democracy against dictatorship, not a mythical international rule of law that has turned into a one-way street exploited by authoritarians like Russia and the Islamic Republic and their terrorist catspaws like Hamas.
Mehdi Hasan@mehdirhasan

It's astonishing that you, a world leader who many respected for standing up to an illegal attack on your country, now support an illegal attack on another country. It completely kills your credibility. Right now. Iran is Ukraine. You may not like to hear that but that is a fact

@WokeMitt @Kasparov63 I'm not sure the point is to suck up but rather bring down the price of oil so that RU will struggle to finance its war economy. If the Strait remains closed, that's bad for UA.

@Kasparov63 Yeah, I’m gonna have to side with Garry on this one. But I will say that Zelensky sucking up to Trump like this isn’t a good look.

As we approach the 5th year of claims "Ukraine will lose soon", my trolls are so convinced of this that they use maps showing Crimea as part of Ukraine. All my trolls are.....

UPDATE 🚨🚨: Odesa, Ukraine 🇺🇦 is about to fall to the Russian Army. Ukrainian infrastructure is being demolished & the Ukrainian Army is crumbling. Mass desertions & soldiers surrendering is making it impossible for Ukraine 🇺🇦 to win. The US 🇺🇸 is done funding losers.

@dszeligowski His greenlight was the US' chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, which made him believe that the government in Kyiv would collapse like the Afghan government did once abandoned to its fate by the US. That turned out to be a catastrophic miscalculation.

What are all these people thinking? That Putin send special forces to Kyiv so as to bring gifts to Zelensky? Putin did not need any green light, he did not care about the US response. He failed, that is it. Do not draw nonsense parallels
Van Jones@VanJones68

I fear this is a green light for Putin to kidnap Zelenskyy and China to do the same thing to Taiwan leadership. We could be entering a New World Disorder where China does whatever it wants in Asia, Russia does whatever it wants in Europe and the USA does whatever it wants to do in the Americas. The people in Venezuela may be freer. But the world is likely less safe. #Venezuela

@IuliiaMendel @leonidragozin Ragozin is a delusional vatnik. They're rationalizing the loss of a key ally as strategic repositioning, as they did after withdrawing from northern UA, Kharkiv, and right bank Kherson. It's pathetic!

Venezuela is turning into a bargaining chip in the game of global superpowers, along with Ukraine - @leonidragozin . Can the recent development play a bigger role in Russia-Ukraine war than just oil matters? aljazeera.com/opinions/2025/…

🚿Occupational authorities in Donetsk region punish Ukrainians for attempts to conduct water in their homes, - TSNS The occupation administration in Donetsk region conducted large-scale raids to search for "illegal connections" to the water supply and identified "violators". During the raids, inspectors even recorded temporary emergency hoses, backup connections or pipes that residents used due to multi-day interruptions or complete lack of water.

@tashecon Or does the market no longer anticipate a collapse of UA's economy like in 2022 but rather a continuation of long-term financial assistance from Western countries to keep it afloat, even if the war continues?

Pretty amazing that Ukraine GDP warrants have more or less recovered most of their losses from the full scale invasion. The market is bullish the peace process. Ukraine watchers less so.

If there’s one undeniable conclusion from the past week, it’s that the Ukrainians have proven themselves to be the only side genuinely willing to negotiate. And they’ve done it not through back channels, not behind the Administration’s back, but officially, openly, and honestly. They took the worst proposal imaginable — a document with 28 of Russia’s boldest demands (even the Russians on those tapes admitted they were too maximalist) — and the Ukrainians still said, “Okay, let’s talk.” They built a meaningful counter-proposal, including some concessions, starting from the worst possible position. And they even met the Thanksgiving-week ultimatum deadline.

@Tatarigami_UA I also think a big part of his calculus is seeing how eager the West is for a peace deal. He likely believes that no matter how far he pushes, the West will still forgive him and want to normalize relations with RU, so he might as well keep going while he can.

3/ This is false, because he is not operating in those categories. He is thinking about how history books will portray him and what his historical legacy will be. Not without reason, since conquerors are often judged by achievements, not by economics or how many people suffered

With or without adjustments to a 28-point peace plan, Russia is unlikely to accept the proposed peace plan, and the war will likely continue for some time. As long as Russia maintains battlefield momentum, it will believe it can secure a better deal by pushing a little longer.

Prof. Hanke estimates corruption accounts for $54–108B of the $360B aid to Ukraine. How much of that stolen cash fuels the media hysteria sabotaging the US peace plan — and how much of the media campaign is financed by the deep state/military-industrial complex? They want war. 🕊️
Steve Hanke@steve_hanke

Yours truly on Ukraine’s corruption pit: “The total amount of money pumped into Ukraine since 2022 is ~$360B. I estimate that corruption accounts for 15–30% of the total aid. That means $54B–$108B is lining the pockets of the corrupt."

@noclador Yep! JD wants this war to go away b/c if it doesn't, the WH's failure to bring an end to the fighting will be a black cloud over his campaign. Their window to establish a ceasefire is closing, and a deal will be more difficult to conclude after the midterms.

So we were right. As always. This was a purely russian concoction, basically their wish list that represents their interests exclusively and the US quite literally just pressured us (again) to sign it, with a deadlines and threats too. Can we please think for a second what happened? Our "ally" and key strategic partner, one of the "guarantors" of our sovereignty declared that it is engaging in diplomacy on our behalf (without allowing us to even be a proper participant), working on the "peace plan" for months... Just to quite literally present us with a russian wish list they masked as fruit of American diplomatic work. That the US now demands we sign under enormous pressure, gaslighting us in the meanwhile, that THIS is our best option that they worked so hard on and we should be grateful for it. I have not slept a couple of days in a row... So my mind is foggy. And I admittedly might be missing something here. But from where I am... This is one of the most despicable things this administration has done. And I my fellow people here I spoke to about this are expressing nothing but visceral disgust. Bodering on hatred. And I don't think it's reversible. I don't think it should be. I feel it to.
Nick Schifrin@nickschifrin

BREAKING: After talking to @SecRubio, @SenatorRounds announces that the 28 point plan was a Russian document, not a US document. Full @SenatorRounds: "@SecRubio did make a phone call to us this afternoon. I think he made it very clear to us that we are the recipients of a proposal that was delivered to one of our representatives. It is not our recommendation, it is not our peace plan. It is a proposal that was received. And as an intermediary, we have made arrangements to share it. And we did not release it. It was leaked. It was not released by our members or our representatives... This is an opportunity to receive it and that it has been utilized and delivered to the Ukrainians, and that they will have an opportunity to respond. And in doing so, you now have one side being presented and the opportunity for the other side to respond."

We spoke with Ukrainian & European top officials, members of the U.S. Congress from both parties, insiders, all say this plan is absolute garbage. They add Rubio had nothing to do with it, and it’s a Witkoff-Vance gimmick. Truly remarkable diplomatic success by these two.
