@D_iagu I also like the scene in the final cut; it's just that this initial version has something so sentimental about it. Woody has been searching the entire store for Bo to reunite with her, and by a twist of fate, they unexpectedly meet again, with memories of their life together

@Booklover198412 The point is that Toy Story 4 was conceived solely as a rom-com between Woody and Bo, not as a film that would address Woody facing an existential crisis. That plot existed until late-2016 when Josh Cooley was already the director.

@TS4_JLcut Yeah and it was a good way to cap off the trilogy as a whole. But when you add the fourth movie you need more depth and to evolve. And so while Bonnie is perfect for the other toys, she isn’t perfect for Woody and he isn’t going to get the same fulfillment as he did with Andy.

The problem was never that Bonnie stopped playing with Woody, but rather the one-dimensional way it was handled in the final version. In the earlier versions, it was respected that Bonnie still had the same affection for him as in TS3, TS Toons, and the specials.

@Booklover198412 I'm not saying she has to be 100% like Andy, but she was originally written to convey that warm, loving vibe that Andy had, while still having her own identity. The ending of TS3 was intended to show that Woody had to let Andy go and that Bonnie was the right home for them.

The fact that they included that Bo design on the back cover of the vinyl released last year is quite surreal. It makes me wonder if the packaging designers know the story behind this Bo concept...

@TargetmasterJoe I think they initially wanted to show Bonnie's playtime, but the idea of showing the moment Bo was given away was always there from the first script. Later, they decided it was best to show Andy and Molly playing because that led to Bo's departure.

@Booklover198412 That she specifically stops using Woody of all her toys almost all of the time is very convenient, but the idea might have worked better if it happened gradually over the years. Doing it abruptly when she's only 5 years old conflicts with his original characterization.

@TargetmasterJoe There were 2 variations of this idea, one where the playtime was with Andy, and the other where the setting changed to a pirate ship (and fun fact, Totoro appeared there).
