Their contention is that if service is so bad everywhere it means that workers who are smarter and more highly skilled must be working “better jobs,” meaning the economy must be good. The reality being even minimum wage jobs now basically see themselves as “career jobs” and many won’t hire employees they consider overskilled due to resentment, insecurity, or the fact they see them as a flight risk because they know they want a job in their field
