Oh hi!! 👋🏼 Yet another study affirms: 1. BMI *isn't* an indicator of health OR of fitness, 2. consistent exercise - NOT weight loss!! - contributes to a healthier, longer life🌟 3. Dieting <healthy habits End fat shaming, check your stereotypes, change medicine 🙌🏼 #MedTwitter

A new study indicates that consistent exercise – not weight loss – contributes more towards a healthier and longer life. The study, led by Glenn Gaesser, Ph.D., FACSM, of Arizona State University is featured in this article from @newyorkpost: ow.ly/I0S650GwsIL

Physician surprised about the potential of Physical Therapy after shadowing us in the clinic. ✅ It's 2021 & most of them aren't aware of what we do. 1 of many take-aways: get more medical residents to shadow PT's (outpatient, pelvic floor, pediatrics, neuro, etc.).

Athletes Overvalue: - Sit Ups - Side Bends - Russian Twists Athletes Undervalue: - Loaded Carries - Bird Dogs - Single Leg RDL As an athlete your end goal of “core work” should NOT be to “get a 6-pack” but rather improve your control of spinal mechanics to enhance movement

I was 14 y/o w/ a tibial stress fracture, left alone w/ no cervical spine exam after this fall. I competed in the Olympic floor final minutes later. @Simone_Biles 🤍 decision demonstrates that we have a say in our own health—“a say” I NEVER felt I had as an Olympian.

@DanielleAngulo4 #PT582 #TT patient preference is a MUST! How do you think this differs from tiger balm or KT tape in terms of pain and the theories that go along with that??

#TT #PT582 Iontophoresis could be good alternative for pain management b/c it only affects one area of the body rather than the whole body like oral meds. Both have possible side effects, pt needs to decide what is worth it. pt preference needs always needs to be considered.

@SptTaryn #PT582 #TT Interesting! Why do you think some people use this instead of pain killers or other topical solutions like ice or tiger balm?

@kdavidnau #PT582 #TT I’m interested to see how this works! What are common instances of where contusions of muscles occur??

#PT582 #EB Hippotherapy goes off the horse’s movement, relying on the pt’s reactions and anticipation to help with motor coordination. Pt population varies on a case-by-case matter, playing into how much assistance therapists provide as well. cram.com/essay/Therapeu…

#PT582 #AS Risk factors of tendinopathy are separated into intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Often, the 2 intertwine where load (extrinsic) influences the body’s internal tolerance and load capacity, playing a major factor in tendinopathy. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

@SptTaryn From what I saw, exercises in supine and prone show benefits of these positions. Such as bridging, push-ups, and planks.

#PT582 #TM Core stability is essential in every pt population. Training in all positions is recommended to meet their ADLs. Including props (ie pillows and stumps) when needed can help create another base of support during training. musculoskeletalkey.com/amputees/

@DanielleAngulo4 Yes I believe so! Those guidelines were for full submersion. Of course, every pt is different so they may vary.

@TateTsingine #DA #PT582 I am glad to see that there are some guidelines that have been established! Does the duration/intensity/increases differ depending on the level of submersion in the water because of the effects of hydrostatic pressure?

#PT582 #DA When using aquatics for cardiac rehab, exercise sessions should be short duration, low intensity, w/ gradual increases. Target HR should be 12-17 bpm lower than land-based, with continued monitoring of vital signs pre, during, and post exercise physiotherapy-treatment.com/aquatic-cardia…
