Palencia (IL)

Maton (dreadful)
Brown (SP)
Thielbar and Milner have looked old/washed. Webb has been overall good but has predictably had some regression to his usual decent levels. It's just not viable.

It's just really hard with this pitching situation.
It's largely a AAA bullpen outside of maybe 2 guys, for example (and 1 of them threw 1 pitch today). Very difficult to hold offenses down for long and especially when you need several of these arms not to fail in a given day.

@jacobzanolla Typical Cubs to try and change someone after seeking them out or, in this case, extending them. Nico earned his extension for how the successful he’s been playing the game how he plays. Why the hell do you reward that and then mess with it?

Why are we trying to change Nico Hoerner's swing, especially midseason?
I get that there's always room to improve, but not sure this was a wise approach. Could be the reason for how bad he's been offensively since the end of April.
Feels like the Cubs were wanting more power out of him, which we saw in the first month (4 HR in April). However, his last homer was April 21.

Hindsight is 20/20, but it was pretty risky to let him throw 118 innings last year after being injured almost all of 2024. They didn't invest in the rotation and had no other choice.
Also, this is his second UCL tear - he had TJ his freshman year in college

Nico Hoerner’s deal with the Cubs is done and will be for six years and $141 million, sources tell ESPN. It’s the fourth-largest contract ever for a second baseman and locks up the 28-year-old into the 2030s. Defense, running, contact skill — Hoerner does everything well.

The season didn’t end how you’d hope, but the Cubs fought this year. Battled injuries, won 92 wins and a playoff series, was down 0-2 and forced a Game 5, won 4/5 playoff games at Wrigley.
Now they head to the winter and the plan will be to build another winner to go further.
