Sean McDade, previously of Northampton, abused the child between May and July last year. In a statement read out to the court during sentencing last week (April 30), the child said: “He scared me and made me think I would get in trouble if I told anyone.” But the child did end up telling someone and McDade, who was already a registered sex offender, was arrested and subsequently charged with six counts of assault by penetration of a girl under 13, three counts of raping a girl under 13, and one count of causing/inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity. After pleading guilty to the offences at Northampton Crown Court in January, McDade returned to the same court last week (April 30) where he was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 12 years. Lead investigator - Detective Constable Kirstie Brooks from Northamptonshire Police’s Child Abuse Investigation Unit, said: “I would like to commend the child in this case for their bravery, and I hope the conclusion of this case allows them to move forward onto brighter things. “Although no sentence can ever take away what happened, I hope it brings them comfort that their abuser will now go to prison for a long time, and hopefully they can move on and finally get the life they deserve. “Sean McDade is now where he belongs and we will continue working hard to put more people like him behind bars.” Detective Superintendent Jen Castle said: “This was an immensely challenging case involving an extremely manipulative and depraved offender however despite the complexity, DC Brooks approached every stage with professionalism, resilience and compassion. “As a direct result of her work, the child in this case did not have to give evidence and I am grateful to her for the skill and sensitivity she demonstrated throughout the investigation.”

You may not agree with me, but you will always know where you stand with me. Today in Billericay, a heckler tried to shout me down as I spoke about the normalisation of hatred towards Jews. I did not back down, because it needs to be said. British Jews are being targeted and too many people are pretending this is the same experience of other minorities. This lady implied Muslims are being similarly targeted. This is simply not true. Let's be honest about what is happening. Certain groups (in particular but not solely Islamic Extremists) are creating a climate of fear and intimidation that is normalising Jew hatred. I will never stand for that. Governments have spent too long hand-wringing, making excuses and hoping it would go away. It is time to call this what it is: a national emergency in our attitude, our urgency and our response. I will always engage with people who disagree with me. That is politics. But there is a difference between argument and intimidation. Shouting does not make a bad case good. It's done to silence others. And it certainly does not change the truth. The truth is that British Jews have been made to feel less safe in their own country. Our country. They are being singled out, threatened and harassed in ways that should shame everyone in public life. If we do not stand up now and stop this rise in antisemitism, then why bother saying "Never Again" at Holocaust Memorial Day? Because this is how it starts. I am not prepared to play along with the pretence that this is normal, or manageable, or just another example of tension between groups. It really is not. It is targeted hatred and it is getting worse. So my message is simple. Not here. Not in Britain. And not on our watch. We need to stop the hand-wringing and start doing the right thing. That means standing with British Jews openly, unapologetically and without fear.

He contacted a girl aged 12 and soon the conversation took a sexualised turn in nature. A sentencing hearing at Truro Crown Court yesterday (Monday, April 27) heard how the conversation - even when Pound knew perfectly well that the girl was 12 years old - went from flirtatious to disgusting. In 15 exchanges over five weeks, Pound, 44, from Station Road in Grampound Road, between Truro and St Austell, asked the girl if she was into older men, if she had a nice body and even asked her to send him pictures of her breasts and genitals. The court heard that on one occasion he asked her to go in the house, locate a sex toy and insert it into her vagina and then he sent her a picture of his penis. It was when he tried to encourage the girl to meet up at a hotel room he would book and asked her to come alone so staff would not bat an eyelid but would think she was his own daughter, that Devon and Cornwall Police, who had run the fake-girl account as a paedo-hunting decoy, pounced. Pound was arrested and charged with one count of inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity and another of engaging in sexual communication with a child in connection with the incident in February/March 2024. The 44-year-old dad of two young children later pleaded guilty to the charges. His barrister said the incident happened two years ago and had been a one-off and Pound had not offended either before or since. She said that Pound denied having any sexual interest in children but admitted that what he did was wrong, adding that he had been lonely at the time with no-one to speak to about his mental health issues. His Honour Judge Simon Carr said Pound had intended to use Kik because it is targeted at and used by children and teens. He said Pound's conversation with the fake child were entirely sexualised and abhorrent in nature. Judge Carr said Pound's offences were so serious an immediate custodial sentence was unavoidable. He sentenced Pound to three years in prison. He will serve half before he is eligible to be released on licence.
