@mjp_hall1980 @talkChristianly That was my question; I remember Durham made sure that when the Avengers was filming, the crew stopped and moved set out of the way for the usual services to happen without disruption. No evensong or Eucharist was cancelled at all I believe. Some extras attended!

St Paul's Cathedral was closed for all public worship today, so the government's investment summit reception could take place. Unprecedented?

Totally this.👇🏽👍👏🏼 We have said that we repent of our homophobia @churchofengland @synod. But as I said in my speech there in July we are doing absolutely bugger all about it. 😡😡😡😡 Since we took the vote to repent of homophobia I have been approached by many clergy colleagues about their experiences of hate & abuse….. Here are my top 3: 1) A clergy person moved into the vicarage of a new post with their same sex partner. At the first meeting of the deanery chapter other members publicly quizzed them if they were celibate & lived according to ‘what the bible teaches.’ The abused complained to the bishop. The bishop tells them to ‘man up’. 2) A clergy person who had been living with their same sex partner, with the knowledge of the bishop, has homophobic graffiti put on the property’s wall. It was done by the Lay Chair of Deanery Synod. The bishop makes no sanction. The clergy person moves to another diocese. 3) A clergy person was told by one of their parishioners that at a public meeting another deanery colleague said that his parishioners should have nothing to do with anything, including upcoming ecumenical events, that were organised by ‘this homosexual’. Note the nothing about practice simply side you. We await the bishops actions…. The most challenging & even frightening meeting for me to attend is @dioceseoflondon diocesan synod. I was was told, when asked how I voted in the LLF/PLF debate, when @synod reps were available for consultation, that I was ‘an apostate’ & a ‘disciple of Satan’. These are all examples of homophobic abuse that have enormous safeguarding risks….. When are @JustinWelby @CottrellStephen going to done arguing about this? When will @bishopSarahM make sure that diocesan synod is a safe place for people like me? I am robust. Some are not. Some will be very hurt Some may even die.

Too many lines to quote but I’ll pick the one I’m taking forward most - “Our calling as a church is not to shallow optimism or indeed toxic positivity, but it is to joy, the sort of broken hearted joy that is found in the heart of God”. @StJPiccadilly

I have finally listened to Lucy Winkett’s sermon from @StJPiccadilly this Sunday. I am so glad I did. Thanks be to God for Lucy and all those who are able to see the joy of a belonging that reaches out to embrace and not restrict. m.youtube.com/watch?v=BTbhRO…

@FrDidymus It’s worship. Unlike other addresses, discussions, lectures, and a whole host of other educational tools Christians engage in as individuals & community to read the Bible & be the body, a sermon (argument) or homily (reflection) is an act of worship within a service of worship

@JustAndy4849 I don’t ask for it but I don’t mind it either. It’s a style of address based on priesthood and my orders are the same as any other; no one calls a priest Father because he is their Dad, but in ref to being a priest so it’s appropriate. Mother is reserved for an Abbess or Mary IMO

@TechieGeorgina Various negative replies - if you'll forgive my language, they're all just arseholes. But out of random curiosity and since you put it in the hashtag - do some people choose to call you Father?

It is all about money. 😔😢 I am genuinely sorry that this is the reaction of @churchofengland colleagues in The Alliance. Some have contributed to my own personal journey of faith in positive ways. Some I really like immensely as people when we meet. But this reads to me as a bullying threat. But worse, it is a threat that says these colleagues will just set up their own parallel province WITHIN the CofE anyway. This WITHIN the present CofE is a reaction that unmasks, what no one actually names, (but hey I seem to have a reputation as one to call a spade a spade) that this is now an argument focused on the Church Commissioners (CC) money. Conservative networks have benefited greatly from the CC pots for their industry of (sectarian?) church planting via the allocation of Strategic Development Funds. These plants have in many cases supplanted & made a parallel form of church to our established parish system & are often not welcomed by under-resourced ordinary, parish clergy. This is one of reasons for the growth of @SaveTheParish - although that group is not of one mind on sexuality. These church plants also have a reputation for not allowing any openly #LGBTQIA+ person to do anything at all in public ministry. That is even if they are a lay person, not in a relationship and even not sexually actively. I even know of one young person who when we came out as gay was told at his @HTBChurch plant that he could no longer sit in the PCC…It is hard to see how this sort of policy even sits within the already homophobic disciplines of Issues in Human Sexuality, the present consensus of the church. If it were not for the CC gold, many of those who feel as strongly as they do would have already left the CofE. The issue this letter highlights about simple majorities or 2/3 consensus majorities is just a disingenuous red herring here. Even if there was a 2/3 majority my colleagues here would still want a parallel province. They would also still want it WITHIN the CofE too so the CC monies could be tapped. But if colleagues do bully & threaten in this way and say ‘no matter what you do we will do our own thing anyway’ the rest of us @churchofengland, and especially those of us on @synod, can't keep allowing common, public CC funds to be spent on determinately schismatic groups, whose funding already is used to delivery undermine the ministry of the majority of the rest of us. It is people like me who have borne the cost of our present consensus on our underlying already lack of unity. PLF does not create disunity it simply asks that that pain may be more equitably & fairly shared. It does not give many of my #LGBTQIA+ colleagues the equal marriage we desire. It just gives us some prayers. I am truly sorry that conservative colleagues do not feel willing to bear the little cost they are asked to in the proposals before us.

Wanting to have their cake and eat it - effectively leave the body that is following the Spirit, but hold onto buildings, stipends, houses, and pensions. If you can’t go where the living tradition is going, join our ecumenical partners. I think it’s a serious lack of integrity.

Schism. A total and complete disgrace. Homophobia dressed in theology - hate splattered with the lipstick of love and all made up in the uniform of unity. Shame on you, building your identity on the backs of LGBTQIA people. Shame on you.
