SOFTBANK IS MARKING UP OPENAI WHILE BORROWING MORE TO BUY OPENAI SoftBank reported ¥1.83T, or about $11.6B, in fiscal Q4 net income. Analysts expected just ¥295.2B. Bloomberg Intelligence said the quarter’s profit was entirely attributable to $25B in valuation gains on OpenAI. For the full year, SoftBank’s net profit more than quadrupled to about $31.7B, driven by nearly $44B in OpenAI gains. SoftBank’s first OpenAI investment was at a $157B valuation. OpenAI is now valued at $852B. SoftBank has committed to raise its total OpenAI investment to $64.6B by year-end. It also secured a $40B bridge loan in March to fund the OpenAI investment and other corporate needs.
