I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Michael Lyster. A proud Galway man, Michael was a giant of sports broadcasting in Ireland and was synonymous with RTÉ’s coverage of Gaelic games.

You want the NATO allies to join you in a war you started without ever consulting these allies about the war or explaining your war aims. We’re meant just to meekly fall in line. You recently supported a US invasion of a NATO ally (Denmark/Greenland) but now you want these same allies to join your war. Your president disparaged and misrepresented the role of NATO allies in Afghanistan. But now you want them to join with you again in a war of your making. You went to war with Iran without a thought of how to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and without involving your allies in the matter. But now you want the NATO allies to bail you out, even though there’s still no plan for Hormuz. You want the NATO allies to join you in a war in which you still cannot articulate the endgame. Or what victory would look like. You went to war thinking the Iranian regime would quickly topple, that Tehran would not attack the Gulf States or close Hormuz. If the regime in Iran falls, surely the US will need regular Iranian forces (not the IRGC) to help rebuild and maintain order. Sending 80 of them to their deaths in international waters and gloating about it is not going to help with that. #IranWar

Embedding the Triple Lock into the constitution gives foreign powers a veto over Irish foreign and defence policy. Some people may be comfortable with China or Russia having that power, but I’d rather take my chances with people we actually elect to govern in our name.

Message from @Fingalcoco about a section of road at Strawberry Beds: A section of the Lower Road (R109) at Strawberry Beds (approximately west of the Angler’s Rest, up to as far as the Guinness Bridge), will be closed until further notice, due to concerns over the stability of a section of embankment adjacent to the road. Some slippage of the bank has occurred due to the prolonged rainfall encountered at this location. Local access to businesses will be maintained and road diversions will be in place.

@OdohertyI64991 Just watched it the other day. It’s excellent. Many Irish and Europeans gloss over the US Civil War as if it’s some irrelevant old war. But as Shelby Foote says, you can’t understand the American character without studying its greatest conflict.

The American Civil War is probably the greatest documentary series ever made. Shelby Foote was the most compelling contributor. He also has one of the greatest voices/accents I've ever heard.
