This is not a new issue. It’s receiving media attention and therefor creates opportunities for politicians to practice politics. @nayibbukele has the blueprint. No solution needs to be invented or created or measured by any committee. It’s simply a question of willingness to implement the proven solutions vs the silent and secret reasons why it’s not implemented. Truth is, it’s not a priority to the relevant powers , for reasons the gatvol public can only speculate. Now, If there is a crisis according to the WHO or WEF, you will see a different kind of energy, policies are accepted and even forced with great enthusiasm and drive and the funding also just appears out of nowhere. (And disappears just as easily without receipts) If we were serious we would deploy the army in these areas and, more importantly, ask for/get help from outside the country to try and bypass the corruption culture that exists in SA. Any other proposals are just there to buy time until there is something new to be angry about. And the process will repeat itself.

I won’t criticise the Minister for admitting that which has been obvious for some time. But his frank admission does require that the Minister must approve additional powers for Metro Police to investigate crimes now! We are ready, able and eager to help SAPS with gang, gun and drug investigations so that we can get conviction rates up. 👮‍♂️🚨
