I formally call for the immediate legal review and release of Yohannes Abraha (John Black).
This case must be assessed within the framework of European human rights law including Articles 10 & 11 of the European Convention on Human Rights protecting freedom of expression and assembly.
While public order laws must be respected, sentencing must also meet the standards of proportionality, individualized criminal intent, and full consideration of political context including credible concerns about Eritrean regime #TransnationalRepression affecting diaspora communities.
A four-year sentence raises serious legal questions:
• Was intent proven beyond reasonable doubt?
• Was proportionality properly applied?
• Were mitigating political factors sufficiently considered?
Justice requires consistency.
Due process requires fairness.
Rule of law requires equal application.
I call for expedited appellate review and release pending appeal.
