Aside from the story's intent. For 2026, the Vikings's Cash to Cap Ratio is 0.8818 on $235m cash payroll The Dolphins's ratio is 1.345 on a $162m cash payroll. Spend heavy on the cap without pushing a bunch of money forward, this is one potential outcome.

The Vikings went from $350 million in spending last year (most in the league) to $226 million this year (next to last). It has prompted speculation that the Wilfs may be thinking about selling the team. nbcsports.com/nfl/profootbal…

It's been a while, but the Substack is back. Going forward, one longform every Sunday. Deeper dives across the entire NFL. If you like my #Bucs stuff, you should love this. Week 1 is up. The Rams' Half-Billion Dollar Bet. More in the reply.

Everyone wants their team to copy the Texans and Seahawks big nickel model, but one thing you have to understand, your CB need to be physical and come up and tackle in the run game, not every CB in the NFL is built to do that. Seahawks'Witherspoon and Josh Jobe Texans Lassiter and Stingley Not to mention the physicality of the guys they have playing big nickel, Everybody loves the scheme but their are some key factors that make it work.

I finally have an understanding of Wavelink software; v3 really simplified it. I was using it all wrong. Now it is always active.

@TexansCommenter No need to sign a vet right now. Check out your younger players in mini-camp, then reassess. Vet prices will drop further into the summer.

@TexansCap Thx. Womp. Still aligns with someone who normally doesn’t sign until training camp though. Our friend Jadeveon Clowney 😂🙏

Former Texan and returned Texan defensive end Ali Gaye will take roster spot #90 after the team claimed him off waivers from Tenn today.

@TexansCap Do you feel like they are set for now or if they may release someone and sign any vets in May like Chubb last year?

@TexansCommenter 1. How he manages sunk costs over 2027-2029. 2. Trying to avoid overpaying for second-wave free agents when the cap is tight. 3. Draft becomes uber important, as well as UDFAs.

I’ve come to learn that may be the biggest key in this approach is having owners willing to spend the cash, good call out. You seem pretty neutral as of now on the future outlook. What is it that would or will worry you the most about the way Caserio has handled things? I take it pressure of hitting on draft picks has ratcheted up as well with extensions?

@TexansCommenter He could leverage cap growth MUCH more than he does now. There is value in the margins the team misses, but I understand how Caserio operates in terms of efficiency versus negotiation. Luckily, the McNairs are willing to back his cash spending habits.

He seemingly is gambling / leveraging projected increasing cap to the utmost ability. I suppose if things don’t go according to plan, Caserio could always make drastic moves such as trades as a solution. I think that’s a fair concern for others to speculate how it will turn out for them down the road. For me, the comment about not only resetting the market but going way ahead of it feels exaggerated when you factor in the years of when those deals begin or just the % of cap for the position.

@TexansCommenter Fair enough. I don't view it as as perbole but valid questions/concerns, for which we will find out the results in the next few years.

@TexansCap So true. I also try to balance putting things out there for feedback with 'don't take criticism from anyone you wouldn't take advice from'

Putting your thoughts and work out there can be nerve-wracking. I'm going through a bit of that myself right now. I see it with our students as well. Sometimes they hold off on submitting that 1st report as they are anxious for the feedback process.

“You know, that sounds great, but what these teams are really doing, I did it with the Packers often, is guaranteeing practice squad money…” “The money's a little higher because the minimums have gone up. But undrafted free agents are basically making guarantees of practice squad.” @AndrewBrandt discusses the “guarantees” undrafted free agents are getting, on the latest Business of Sports:
