A few friends have asked if I will miss teaching math. My answer is no. Most days I felt like I was talking to myself. Most students lacked foundational math skills, making it almost impossible to learn high school math. I would much rather teach students life skills and watch them build confidence by doing things they thought were impossible.

@TolentinoTeach Yes, all these new programs - the actual teaching gets lost in translation. Class A has 13 girls and 15 boys. Class B has 18 girls and 10 boys. Class C has 15 g/16bs. If you were to add all the girls in A&C and all the boys in B&C, what is the differnce? Seriously? WTFH????????

We are in an era of “pedagogical clutter.”
There’s a surplus of methods, practices, and acronyms to learn—and administrations are in a hurry to implement them.
Teachers are constantly cramming new info, and retaining little.
Let’s slow down, simplify, and focus.

@Sassafrass_84 In some states there are stipulations where the money goes. Ex: can't go to a school that doesn't have standardized testing, can't go to a school with uncertified teachers etc

9:00 AM Sunrise is more insane than most people realize. That's 1.5 class periods into school before the sun even rises. 2 hours into most blue collar workdays. That extra hour of daylight (in cold winter when everyone is inside anyway) from 5-6p isn't worth it at all.

The U.S. House will vote this week on whether or not to make daylight saving time permanent. Essentially, we would not change the clocks again (no "falling back"). As I've mentioned over the years, below are 3 options and how they would look in Indianapolis, IN: current system, year-round daylight saving time & year-round standard time. Year-round daylight saving time would result in a 9:02 AM sunrise and 6:23 PM sunset on the winter solstice.

@eduleadership to be fair the parents who scream and cry over an extra bottle of water is the one with the slow kid with no survival skills who didn't have enough snap to get as much water as he needs, rule or no rule. Most kids would have found a spicket and drenched themselves from that.

A lot of people I respect and usually agree with are siding with the school. Maybe this is a cultural difference.
Where I live, it gets really hot, and water is not something to be stingy about. We have kids overheat and die every summer (usually football).

When schools hand out items they aren’t free. The school has paid for them. If a pupil is offered 1 item then the child shouldn’t take 2 & run away when challenged. This shouldn’t be defended. It’s theft.

WOW AMERICA 🤩 This is world class, exceptional, one of a kind. Ginnie Springs. People come to mid Florida for the theme parks, but missing out on these natural parks (there are many of them) is a huge mistake. 10/10!

@ZillennialApple Y'all are a bunch of newbies. I tape pics of myself at the end of the pencils. Every time a student needs a pencil, I put a matching picon a chart next to his/her picture so I'll know who borrowed a pencil. Kids don't want their pic next their teacher's pic so problem solved

I loathe whoever wrote that "I aint got a pencil" poem with every fiber of my being. Every brainless admin and teacher martyr turned that poem into a reason to demonize teachers for not wanting to spend their own money on supplies.
