**No, it wasn't a stock photo.** The New York Post explicitly captioned the image as: "A bolt action rifle recovered near the scene where Charlie Kirk was fatally shot. Obtained by the NY Post." They published a photo of the actual Mauser .30-06 rifle authorities recovered (the one tied to the case via texts calling it "grandpa's rifle," DNA, etc.). Claims that it was generic stock imagery appear to stem from online skepticism/conspiracy discussion, but the paper's own reporting and caption contradict that.
