Each carrier battle group with escort ships, planes and defense against attack costs $25 billion +. Both of these two are out of commission after minor scrapes with Iranian coastal patrol boats and rebellious sailors on board. What a hideous waste. Every member of the defense appropriations committees who votes to fund these lumbering dinosaurs should be tarred, feathered and run of of town.

The US Navy sent its two most powerful warships to fight Iran. Both are now gone from the front. The USS Gerald R. Ford, the most expensive warship ever built at $13.2 billion, left the Red Sea after a fire broke out in its laundry room. That’s the official story. The real story is what a Pentagon testing report quietly revealed at the same time. The Ford’s jet launch system is unreliable. Its radar is unreliable. Its weapons elevators, the lifts that move bombs and missiles to the flight deck, are unreliable. Pentagon testers said there is simply not enough data to assess whether the ship can keep operating if it takes enemy fire. Fixes for these combat systems have been identified. Most remain unfunded. The ship also doesn’t have enough bunks. It needs at least 159 more. This is the Navy’s flagship. Delivered years late. $13.2 billion. Deployed into a war zone with systems the Pentagon itself cannot certify as combat-ready. Then there’s the USS Abraham Lincoln. Iran claimed repeatedly that its missiles forced the Lincoln to retreat. The US called it propaganda. What’s not disputed: the Lincoln moved from 350 kilometers off the Iranian coast to over 1,100 kilometers away. Both carriers are now parked far beyond the range of Iranian anti-ship missiles. The Pentagon calls it “tactical repositioning.” The Ford has been at sea for nearly 11 months, one of the longest carrier deployments in modern US history. Maintenance on nuclear carriers takes months under normal conditions. After a fire, an 11-month deployment, and a backlog of deferred repairs, analysts are now talking about 12 to 14 months out of action. America went into this war with two carriers. It now has zero operating near the fight. Gandalv / @Microinteracti1

Trump is a shapeshifting "weekend warrior." Monday through Friday, he's always talking peace, negotiations and de-escalation. But after the markets close, he goes full Jekyll and Hyde and turns into "Weekend Warrior Trump" where he bombs everything, murders negotiators, breaks promises and destroys infrastructure. Then his cabinet is rolled out on Sunday to hit the news cycle to tell Americans everything is fine, we won, and we took no damage, no casualties and no losses. All the damage is explained away as "laundry room fires" or "friendly fire" or "equipment failure." Then by Monday morning, Trump is Mr. Peace again for five more days, manipulating markets and fabricating fake news about "negotiations" to keep oil prices low for the next five days. Rinse and repeat.

They invented an "Iranian terrorist group" that they’re accusing of “antisemitic attacks” exactly as the war of aggression on Iran starts... They didn’t even bother to give it a Farsi name as they forgot that Iran doesn’t use Arabic…

It is worthy of note that the group which is claiming responsibility for the burning of ambulances last night refers to Palestine as “the land of Israel.” It does so in both English and Arabic, which is particularly unusual.

Very convenient isn't it this attack in Golders Green, 3 men know exactly where to go to find 4 unprotected ambulances, and they have exactly the right tools, packs of solid combustibles to do it. All exactly when they need it to generate support for the war in the Middle East.

I will of course be falsely accused of 'denial' etc for asking these questions. Question-asking is discouraged in these times. Well, I am not denying anything, simply inquisitive ,as I have been trained to be. Which US destroyer shot down one of the two Diego Garcia-bound missiles? Where did it do so? Where did the other one, which failed, come down in the sea? How close were these locations to DG? What checkable facts, originating from what named persons, do we have?
Graeme Lawton@Ga1act0r

@ClarkeMicah @BrexitMapman we should be cautious with reaching conclusions at these early stages as regards just who fired the weapons
