@jeremy_gans The number of times I've been told I'm acting in bad faith for backing out of someone else's negotiated amendments bc I'm the only one who apparently sees the facts no longer match the new charge

"Smart is accused of pushing staff member Maisie Croker, who asked her to leave the restaurant, and theft of crayfish belonging to restaurant owner Anthony Cooper." Looks like there was initially a theft charge. I guess criminal damage was a charge bargain?

"The 47-year-old marine biologist walked into the restaurant at around 9pm and removed the live lobster from a fish tank. Two staff members attempted to stop her, but she left with the animal and released it in the harbour a few yards away.": telegraph.co.uk/gift/bde437028…

@rothschildmd Depends if you think he goes fast or if it'll be a long decline - like Dean Phillips getting punished for going too early against Biden

@Mentats11 @senatorshoshana I'm not convinced by that. My view is the affected wages fall dramatically to remain competitive with technology, worsening living standards and class divides - if there isn't government intervention to soften the blow

@senatorshoshana @That_GuyHim If AI and robots end up doing most jobs. There will be massive unemployment. There will be no adjustment because any new jobs will be automated somehow. LLMs won't get to that point but that isn't the only way to do AI.

"Data centers are not a luxury or a niche issue; they are the indispensable infrastructure for the AI-driven economy. Prioritizing their rapid build-out, paired with bold expansion and reform of the bulk power system, is essential for long-term U.S. competitiveness against China and sustained American prosperity. The U.S. does not need central planning; it needs the regulatory barriers removed so free enterprise can meet the AI moment." @AndrewCFollett @NRO

“We didn’t get poorer when machines started doing manual labor instead of us ... When computers do some white collar work for us, it doesn’t take anything away from us. It frees us up to produce more. The original Luddites — Bernie does it, too — cannot imagine a world without the labor theory of value.” nationalreview.com/2026/04/the-fr…

The problem with claiming to Speak for God (sometimes) or be Direct Literal Heirs to the Apostles or the One True Church is that you are not ever allowed to be run by obvious doofuses or hacks, or your credibility is shot. One advantage of Protestantism is that when the leaders are obviously wrong or just bloviating about something (sadly common, since they are humans) you can say “well that guy’s an idiot” with a clear conscience.

The Pope - the first American Pope, no less - isn't just the leader of the Catholic Church as an institution. His interpretation of Jesus's teachings represents the moral and spiritual foundation of the religion. The President just attacked him as weak and accused him of not caring about human lives - and the actual White House promoted it. America's got more than 50 million Catholics.

@howie_hua Used this in a Yr6 Special Skills presentation, claiming I can divide any number between 1 and 100 by 7. If you don't know the pattern it seems like a magic trick.

@jeremy_gans Some random suburban court, yes. But I could name 3 Brisbane Mags who without question would threaten you with an LSC complaint for suggesting a Brisbane court is inferior/incapable vs a Sydney court

@That_GuyHim There's been some (unlikely) claims of jury pool shopping - evidence law shopping may be a touch more likely, but it's minor stuff - but surely the main arguments will be about convenience for the parties and things like availability of suitable court rooms etc.

It is not clear to me why place of arrest determines place of trial. For federal charges concerning events outside Australia, the trial ‘may be held in any State or Territory.’ classic.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/cth/c…
Peter Brent@mumbletwits

“One well-placed source suggested investigators might have waited to arrest Roberts-Smith in NSW because they wanted access to a wider and more diverse jury pool” than more conservative Qld, where he lives.

@senatorshoshana Cars, telegraphs - yes were effective free market transitions. Globalisation, service economy, industrial farming, clean technology - have all been highly disruptive on the lower classes in those industries without government support Internet was touch and go for a bit

@marcorandazza Process stories lack mainstream appeal so there's no urgency. It'll be timed for maximum political damage to whoever orchestrated it

Is there a single “journalist” trying to uncover the story of why and how the DNC machine decided to turn on Swalwell, or you all just lazy gossip columnists dutifully printing the easy and lazy story?

@jeremy_gans No, NSW warrant being executed in Qld. Which I thought would be more commom/streamlined then a federal interstate transfer. For federal transfers, you might also face judge-shopping allegations from a prickly bench if you say you want to move it interstate without good reason

@jeremy_gans A couple months ago, was told by consent was a 2wk process involving Commissioner-level approvals in both States. Not including staffing and travel bookings which are adhoc tasks that admin struggle with without prescribed tasking guides

@That_GuyHim What’s the headache? It’s just a short hearing or two, right? Maybe a big deal in minor cases but not in this case.
