Thanks for nothing, François Legault
"The slick-talking businessman who wanted to run Quebec like a company ended up blaming immigrants and minorities for all our problems — like every other conservative politician who’s run out of ideas."

43 years ago, at 41,000 feet in the air, a brand new passenger plane carrying 69 people went completely silent.
Both engines died at the exact same time. The massive jet had just run out of fuel mid-flight.
The reason was a simple math mistake caused by a confusing transition. Canada was right in the middle of switching to the metric system. This specific plane was the very first one in the airline's fleet to use kilograms. The ground crew was still used to the old system. They calculated the fuel weight in pounds. The plane took off with less than half the fuel it needed to make the trip.
What happened next should not have been survivable.
The captain happened to fly small, unpowered gliders as a hobby. He had to do something no one had ever done with a commercial jet. He flew the heavy, powerless plane like a giant paper airplane toward an old abandoned military runway his co-pilot remembered.
Neither of them knew the old base had been turned into a public car track.
Neither of them knew there was a family racing event happening right on the asphalt that afternoon. Go-karts, cars, and kids on bicycles were directly in their path.
The plane came down completely silently. There was no loud engine noise to warn the people below.
The pilot forced the plane to drop out of the sky sideways just to slow it down. He came in fast. The front wheels collapsed when they hit the runway. The nose of the plane scraped across the concrete, throwing sparks everywhere until the huge jet skidded to a halt. The back end was sticking three stories up in the air.
Nobody on the ground was hit. Every single one of the 69 people on board walked away.
When airlines later put other pilots in simulators to try and copy the landing, every single one of them crashed.
The plane was repaired and flew for another 25 years.

@Pirat_Nation Cause every pilot knows copilots are for entertainment only, can mistakes and should be used at their own risk. A better name for it would have been Jester.

@RippedWilliams @Smil3yAngel Well, the 1.5 is the union/company side. The extra 1.0 comes from the government. What province are you in doesn't give you the holiday/compensation?

English

@RippedWilliams @Smil3yAngel Actually, you get paid 1.5 for the hours you work, and an additional 8 hours either paid out or a paid day you can take off at a later date. If you work that day and take the 8 hours pay, you are effectively making 2.5. I’m my union’s ship steward and can confirm it is true.
English

@Smil3yAngel You get 1.5 pay not 2.5 are you fucking smoking crack..you actually think the unions or employers will pay 2.5 ffs this is canada 2016 we are lucky you get a god dam thing
English

@planetside2 Thank-you for fixing the crashes. (for me anyway)
English

@cultmtl What? You’re the mayor. Give me your powers for a day and I’ll put a system in place that will be far better than what we are doing now.

@YueKuratsu I still have quite a few of these, and two drives.

@trentonhansen50 @wartirnes Part of me wants to take this question seriously, and part of me thinks if you don't know the answer for yourself yet, there is no point.
English

@wartirnes Okay what I really want to know is why the hell are all these video's just 1v1's. Where are the squads? Why is this guy on point with no backup or support? Did we forget how infantry combat works this war??

Ukrainian Soldier Kills Russian at Close Range in Ruined Building
Footage shows a Ukrainian soldier clearing rubble in a destroyed building when a Russian soldier suddenly approaches from very close range. The Ukrainian immediately opens fire with a burst of shots, killing the Russian on the spot.

@SirJeremyLondon You’re an idiot. Invoking this is incredibly stupid and you should be ashamed of yourself.

The Russian An-26 that crashed in Crimea was carrying up to 30 personnel in its cargo hold in addition to the crew.
Presumably, all those on board were killed.

@CTVMontreal People like that driver have no place in Canada. Every single one of them should be deported.

JUST IN: Mt. Everest guides accused of “poisoning” climbers to trigger helicopter rescues as part of an insurance scam.
The guides have allegedly been lacing hikers' food and pressuring them into taking expensive rescue helicopter evacuations.
"Guides with the trekking agencies allegedly poisoned tourists by putting baking soda in their food to trigger severe gastrointestinal distress that mimicked altitude sickness or food poisoning," the New York Post reports.
Operators would allegedly then forge medical documents and flight documents to charge international travel insurers.
According to police, the groups have received $19.69 million in insurance payouts.
Police in Nepal have charged 32 individuals for organized crime and fraud, including trekking company owners, helicopter operators, and hospital executives.

Trump stated that he does not respect Putin, calling him a war criminal, and emphasized that a war of aggression in the 21st century is unacceptable.
Trump highlighted that he admires Ukraine’s resistance, Zelensky’s leadership, and the Ukrainian people’s commitment to European values. He said he will continue to support Ukraine in every possible way, reaffirming his belief in democracy, justice, freedom, liberal ideals, and the development of independent institutions.
“We will stand with you for as long as it takes,” the U.S. president stressed.
He also added: “Slava Ukraini!”

Vladyslav Heraskevych shares his thoughts on combat athletes’ involvement with Russian organizations and leaders:
“I was super excited by Jon Jones’ fights, and for me, he was like a huge legend. But these days, he’s in Russia doing some hit shows and taking part in freak shows.
To be honest, it’s such a low for him. He is a legend of this sport, MMA, and yet he’s part of this mockery of sports.
It’s not normal, and I don’t really understand why people allow themselves to be used for that reason.”

BREAKING:
Politico reports that Ukraine has offered to help break Iran’s naval blockade of the Hormuz Strait.
Zelensky discussed the matter during his visit to the Gulf. Ukraine would share its know-how from breaking Russia’s naval blockade of Odesa in the Black Sea:
The strategy would involve defense against air attacks, protection against sea mines, as well as coordinated operations by coastal artillery, the air force, and other units. Naval drones would play a decisive role.

Friends,
With a heavy heart, I came here to tell you that 6-year-old Yevheniia has died in hospital. Her injuries from the Russian strike were too severe.
Her 20-year-old sister, Dasha, shielded her with her own body - she was killed on the spot.
The parents lost both of their daughters. They were also injured.
Deepest condolences...
Russia keeps killing Ukrainian children. Russia must answer for its countless unforgivable crimes.

Anton Gerashchenko@Gerashchenko_en
These are sisters Dasha, 20, and Yevheniia, 6. During a Russian strike on Ochkyne in Sumy region, Dasha covered Yevheniia with her body to protect her younger sister. Dasha was killed by the Russian strike, Yevheniia is in hospital in critical condition, doctors are fighting for her life. The girls' parents were also injured. Deepest condolences. Russia strikes the areas of Sumy region close to the frontlines every single day.

@NOELreports You mean the Iran that has provided weapons and training to Russia to kill Ukrainians? That Iran? Hey Iran - go fuck yourself.
