Orthodoxy is on the ropes right now thanks to the OrthoBros, anons, inquirers, catechumens and recent converts. Say what you want about protestants, but we know better than to let babes in the faith become the faces of our church. Once these guys have finished consuming your churches like locusts, they'll just move on to something else.

Disagree, I don't think this is a big sticking point for most protestants. Though I don't agree with how orthos and caths define iconography or veneration, its more like a quirk to me than a major theological error. I think EO has far bigger problems than iconography.

I've been following David Wood's dive into Eastern Orthodoxy and just finished watching his video with Orthodox Ethos. I have to be honest: It was extremely unconvincing as a positive case for EO. The constant appeal to church fathers over Scripture was a huge red flag. The main argument boiled down to: "This is how Christianity has always been, God wouldn't abandon His church, we're right, so join our church." The most interesting part was about Christians outside the church. OE argued that those outside of EO may "follow" Christ in a sense, but do not have Christ in them for His healing. This clashes with Acts 10: Acts 10:44-45, 47-48a While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles. "Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. These Gentiles were filled with the Holy Spirit after simply hearing and believing the Gospel - *before* baptism. This makes it tough to argue that baptism is required for salvation, let alone for God's spirit to indwell someone. This also undermines EO's claim of "this is what the Church has always taught."

The child had suffered 40 injuries including external and internal bruising, and a fractured arm. Detective found videos on Varley’s phone, recorded earlier that day, with the boy lying on the bed with respiratory arrest but the defendant did not seek medical help. Varley is charged with: murder, manslaughter, two counts of assault by penetration, five counts of cruelty to a child, grievous bodily harm, sexual assault of a child, 13 counts of taking indecent photos or videos of a child, one of distributing an indecent photo of a child. A month before the child’s death, Varley told a social worker he wasn’t “bonding” with the child and was having “dark thoughts” about him, including thoughts of drowning or suffocating the baby. He said he would never act on them.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ They let him keep the baby anyway.

Protestants don’t stop to consider that their own tradition provides interpretation to laypeople. You can’t get away from it. No secular person reads Romans and knows what the heck is going on

You seriously think a random Christian couldn't have told him how the prophecy was fulfilled? And you think that if he actually had one of the Gospels, he still couldn't have figured it out? So why couldn't the Ethiopian Eunuch in Acts 8 interpret isaiah ? Why did Ezra and the Levites interpret the Torah for the people in Nehemiah 8 ?

@TheOtherPaul2 Choir director is legit. Huge youth program, maybe. Everything else meh. Serve the Church by doing their law work pro bono. Most women want the seminary thing because they want to wear man pants TBH.

A better question is why women are at seminary at all. They are - assuming the place actually follows Scripture - not going to be in the pastorate, so they can learn what they need from the men in their lives or direct reading of Scripture. Further, their presence kills the ordinary male temperament for effective discussion/debate, because we now have to accomodate the weaker vessel.

I defend my faith every day. But my faith is in the Triune God of Scripture, Jesus' death for sins, Jesus' resurrection, etc., not in sectarian claims that Christians have been debating for centuries. Still have no clue why so many Christians now think IT'S BAD to focus on defending the core teachings of the scriptures. I never heard a complaint about this for decades as a Christian, and yet I hear it 50 times per day now. Weird things going on.

Three questions for Orthodox Christians: (1) Who would you recommend for a livestream laying out the POSITIVE CASE for the Eastern Orthodox Church being the True Church? (I mean someone who would actually do an effective livestream about this, not someone too busy or too annoying.) (2) What video/lecture (20-60 minutes) do you think does the best job laying out the positive case for the Eastern Orthodox Church being the True Church? (3) What book (preferably 150-200 pages, classic or modern) do you think lays out the strongest case for the Eastern Orthodox Church being the True Church?
