@BorisJohnson Er, so nothing to do with Bitcoin, it’s a classic pig butchering scam - investments, romance. A better article would have been how to avoid these scams, never pay ‘fees’ to release crypto profits you see on a fancy website etc

🚨 UPDATED Budget Thread 🚨 The OBR accidentally leaked the full Budget forecast. Here are the key tax changes coming your way. TLDR: Record tax burden. Welfare rises. Debt barely moves. Income tax thresholds frozen even longer. This drags: • 780k more into basic rate • 920k more into higher rate • 4k more into additional rate Fiscal drag doing the heavy lifting. National Insurance will now apply to salary-sacrificed pension contributions. This alone raises £4.7bn a year. A major structural shift. Dividend, property and savings tax rates all going up by 2 percentage points. Another £2.1bn in tax revenue. Investors and landlords take the hit. A huge new one: Mileage-based road tax for EVs & hybrids from April 2028. Set at around half the petrol fuel duty rate. Expected to raise £1.4bn. Other tax hikes include: • Reduced writing-down allowances (CT) • Gambling tax reforms • Tightened CGT relief for EOTs • £2.3bn from HMRC compliance crackdowns On the spending side: • Two-child limit scrapped in Universal Credit • Reversal of cuts to winter fuel payments & health-based benefits Total welfare increase: £9bn a year. Borrowing falls later in the decade, but only because taxes are rising to 38% of GDP — the highest in UK history. Debt still rises to 97% of GDP before dipping slightly. The OBR calls out huge risks: • Productivity downgraded • Local authorities in deep trouble • SEND costs spiralling • Tax burden testing economic incentives • Inflation keeping pressures elevated The punchline: This Budget is a tax-heavy, welfare-expanding, low-growth plan. And the UK ends the decade with double the average advanced-economy debt. Still digesting, will keep updated.
