Mr. President, completely agree about having a lot of fun over these next seven months.  But nitpicking? Some of your advisors are telling you to support things like:     - Using billions of taxpayer dollars to compensate convicted felons and thugs who attacked police. (Ed Martin)    - Pushing 50-year mortgages and Elizabeth Warren's housing bill over sound conservative housing policy. (Bill Pulte)    - Using taxpayer money to transform publicly traded companies into state-owned enterprises. (Howard Lutnick)    - Firing our very best generals and not holding Putin accountable for his systematic kidnapping, rape, torture, and murder of Ukrainian civilians. (Pete Hegseth)  If opposing these things makes me a RINO, then I gladly accept that nickname.  We need Republicans to do well in November, but the stupid stuff is killing our chances!

The big story in the energy crisis is NOT gas or coal generation. There is no coal generation rebound. And gas has not fallen. Gas was ALEADY more expensive than coal BEFORE the crisis, so there was little potential to further switch from gas into coal. The big story is in wind and solar meeting fast-rising electricity demand growth. The energy crisis hasn't changed what we're doing. It's just sped it up. Dramatically. Countries are paying much higher coal, gas and oil prices - especially importer countries in Asia - and are desperate to reduce their exposure. The economics and politics have changed for good for wind, for solar, and especially for electrification. Wind+solar was already meeting all electricity demand growth before the crisis. But investment requirements are huge and long term, so it will take months and years for this acceleration to be seen in the generation. It is coming. And it will hit not just gas hard - but also oil.

My thoughts are with the Gabbard family as they face this difficult diagnosis, and I wish them strength in the days ahead.   But let’s be clear: Donald Trump must not treat this vacancy as another opportunity to reward loyalty over competence.
