God’s abundance isn’t just provision—it’s life overflowing. “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10) Trust His generosity today.

Happy Memorial Day! 🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸 On this Memorial Day, we honor the American service members who gave their lives in defense of the Republic. From the fields of Lexington and Concord in 1775, where the fight for independence began, to the beaches of Normandy in 1944, through Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, their sacrifices secured our liberty across generations. We remember their courage and the enduring price of freedom.

If you're worried about ticks, put up an owl box. The animal driving most Lyme disease in the eastern US is the white-footed mouse. Ticks that feed on them are far more likely to come away infected than ticks that feed on other animals. The bigger the local mouse population, the worse the next year's tick year. A single barred owl pair raising chicks can take hundreds of rodents in a breeding season. Owls also don't carry Lyme. The bacterium can't survive their digestive tract, so an owl that eats an infected mouse is a dead end for the disease. Researchers at the Cary Institute, the leading lab on Lyme ecology, have been explicit about this: "Landscapes that support predators have reduced Lyme disease risk." One owl box on its own isn't going to fix a tick year. But a yard with owls, foxes, bobcats, and weasels in it has fewer mice, and a yard with fewer mice has fewer infected ticks. If you have woods or fields nearby, a properly sized barn owl or screech owl box (different species, different boxes) is one of the most useful single things you can do for tick exposure at the landscape scale. Match the box to the owl that lives near you. The mouse is the problem, owls are the solution.

Every year, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring. They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died. France also gave us this land as American soil. #MemorialDayWeekend

Tara Thomas, the widow of U.S. Army Green Beret Warrant Officer Shawn Thomas, shared a deeply emotional moment captured in a heartbreaking video. The video was taken in February 2017 at Raleigh-Durham International Airport in North Carolina. It shows Tara approaching and leaning her head on her husband’s flag-draped coffin after it was unloaded from a plane. The video went viral after a passenger on the plane, Lisa West Williams, recorded and shared it with Tara’s permission. Tara wanted to raise awareness about the daily struggles faced by military families. This powerful and poignant video serves as a testament to the sacrifices made by service members and their Gold Star families.

🇺🇸 President Trump just SPECIFICALLY called on Gold Star Families to stand, and took time to honor them "Those who died so that our nation could live, those who gave up their sacred light on earth so that the sublime light of American freedom would shine forever and ever: This Memorial Day, we SALUTE them, we exalt them, and we thank them for all that we have, and for all that they gave. They gave EVERYTHING. God bless our fallen heroes!" 🇺🇸 "We're joined today by some of those they left behind: our incredible Gold Star families. INCREDIBLE people! To every person here and across America who holds tight to the memory of a warrior taken from them, we will never, EVER forget the ones you loved." 🙏🏻 "Gold Star family members, please stand and receive our thanks."

The image depicts Katherine Cathey, the pregnant widow of U.S. Marine 2nd Lt. James “Jim” Cathey, lying on an air mattress on the floor in front of her husband’s flag-draped casket the night before his burial. A Marine honor guard stands vigil in the background. Jim Cathey was tragically killed in action in Iraq in August 2005. Overcome with grief, Katherine refused to leave her husband’s casket. She requested to spend one final night with him. Two Marines went to great lengths to provide her with a makeshift bed, using a mattress and pillows on the floor. One Marine stood guard over her and the casket throughout the night. This powerful and Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph was captured by Todd Heisler in 2005 as part of his series “Jim Comes Home” for the Rocky Mountain News.
