@GarrettPetersen Pokemon did a bad attempt at this in the last generation (Scarlet/Violet) that didn’t use the school setting well

The two best kid fantasies are Harry Potter (learning magic at a boarding school) and Pokemon (gathering a team of magical fighting creatures). A story about a boarding school for creature trainers would do numbers.

I will once again say that the lack of any requirements on internal models like Mythos is one of the biggest problems with the SB53 etc regime

A brewing, underappreciated axis of the "culture wars" is people who were expecting "the long 90s/00s" versus people who want the sci-fi future, and it doesn't map cleanly to left versus right

@tenobrus There’s only one reason why OpenAI would want to acquire TBPN.

damn. this is great for the team and i'm super happy for them, but gotta say this sucks pretty bad for everyone else! there is no public upside in ~journalists being owned by the companies they report on.

TBPN has been acquired by OpenAI The world is changing quickly but TBPN will stay the same. Live every weekday just with a lot more resources. Thank you to everyone that has been a part of this journey big or small. We are 17 months in and unironically just getting started.

I don’t even remember what the “ghastly reason” was…

Mormon theology has been in the discourse for a ghastly reason but enough time has passed that I’ll briefly weigh in: The philosophical revolution which the nation of Israel undertook was the rejection of any Metaphysical Realm—some “background reality” behind the God(s). Call it the fates, kismet, eternal law, whatever. Some higher, deeper, non-animate force which even divine beings must obey. This rejection, and the replacement of the Realm with a single, almighty creator God, is the core engine—and riddle—of the Abrahamic faiths: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Mormonism’s greatest divergence from Nicene Christianity isn’t anything silly like prophets in America or magical undergarments. Even its more initially-startling ideas like “As God now is, man shall be” isn’t such a far stretch from orthodox ideas like Theosis. The greatest breach is that Mormonism reintroduces the Metaphysical Realm. And this does “solve” a lot of theological problems. But it solves them in the same way which, say, Shintoism or Chinese folk religion does.
JoshN@joshnaa2gez

All the things that make Mormonism “heretical” are what make it a viable alternative to mainstream Christianity. Pre-mortal life makes free will possible. God’s perfect obedience to eternal law resolves the problem of evil. Work for the dead makes man accountable for what he knows, not punishable for his ignorance. God’s origin as a man, and man’s destiny as a God, makes our present condition worthwhile, the sacrifice of Christ infinite, and the worth of souls eternal. Degrees of glory mean good people who reject Christ are not treated the same as murderers and rapists. Dogmatic Christians clutch their pearls. But honest atheists, agnostics and people of undetermined faith look at it and go, “Huh… that actually could be…”
