Congrats to all those who matched today! Please remember: YOU MATTER, your health is important and we care about you. We want to know if you are running out of gas. We are with you. You are never alone. Pic: a zero gas moment during COVID. My residency family fueled me.

@bfhermann @bridget__marc I agree it matters. Perhaps by first acknowledging that environment can negatively impact one’s mental health (regardless of specialty), we can prevent this from happening to others.

TW: suicide There is an empty corner desk in a resident workroom at GW. Now forever engraved in my mind, that desk is a harrowing reminder of the cost of medical training. In his final words, Dr. William West said that he was simply out of gas, that he had nothing left to give.

@bfhermann @bridget__marc Will died. Have some respect. Does it really matter which factor was dominant? If his specialty was “more taxing” would that justify his pain more to you?

@bridget__marc Wasn’t the person in question an ophthalmology resident? Historically that would not be considered an overly taxing residency in comparison to other specialities. Perhaps this was more of a personal mental health issue than an environmental one.

@nancynursez637 @NM_ObGyn @AAGL Our study revealed a 15% prevalence rate of endometriosis amongst normal appearing appendixes. This certainly doesn’t mean appendectomy is warranted for everyone, but counseling of it’s utility should be discussed with patients.

@AngChaudhariMD @UHC Complete paternalistic control over reproductive rights masked by concern for “potential regret.” What happened to patient autonomy? @UHC Please work on being advocates instead of creating insurmountable obstacles for patients and their providers.
