The historical context of Brussels demanding £1 billion makes this even more outrageous. When Britain joined the EU in 1973, we were told it was about trade and prosperity. By 2014-2018, our average annual net contribution had risen to £8.22 billion. That’s what Leave voters rejected. In 2017, Theresa May negotiated a “divorce bill” of £35-39 billion to exit. The actual cost ballooned to over £50 billion. We’re still paying instalments - £3.25 billion in 2024 alone. Those payments don’t stop until 2065, with liabilities including EU pensions, grants, and projects committed before we left. Now, less than six years after officially leaving, Brussels wants us to start paying AGAIN - £1 billion yearly based on Switzerland’s €375 million model scaled to UK GDP. But Switzerland negotiated as an independent nation that never joined. Britain is being treated as a failed state crawling back. And for what? Starmer’s “reset” already includes EU rules on food safety and energy that Britain must follow without amendment rights. We’re becoming an EU colony: paying tribute, following orders, exercising zero sovereignty. The ultimate insult? The same European diplomat who demanded Britain “pay to play” said “that is not unusual” - as if it’s NORMAL for a sovereign nation to pay foreign governments for permission to trade. Eight million people voted Leave to escape this. Starmer is dragging us back in - except this time we don’t even get a seat at the table. Just the bill.

He stood in front of European leaders in Armenia and admitted the UK economy is worse than forecast. Then committed Britain to a £2 billion EU loan scheme - no vote, no debate, no mandate. He didn't say it would hurt families. He said it would play out with the electorate. Not people. The electorate. Days before local elections, a politically wounded Prime Minister is making generational financial commitments on our behalf. The entry fee alone Is £2 billion. Total interest across the scheme could hit £17 billion. 🤬

Whether you voted leave or remain, surely at least both sides thought we’d STOP paying Brussels when Leave won. Instead, Starmer is negotiating to pay them forever. This is the biggest political con in modern British history.
