Our dear friend @JohnPetrolino has earned himself a few trophies this year with the New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists - 2025 Excellence in Journalism Awards. FIRST place for Best Coverage of State Government for his series of articles highlighting potential abuses of the “shall issue” carry permitting system after the Supreme Court’s decision in Bruen. FIRST place for Best Coverage of Municipal Government for his Bearing Arms story “Permit to Carry Denial Over a Driving Record?”. SECOND place award in the same category for a series of articles at Bearing Arms documenting that “Gun Ownership is Alive and Well in the Garden State”. Congrats, John! **link to Bearing Arms article - bearingarms.com/camedwards/202…

Your leaders with @TheNJSPJ covering a wild scene in Camden last night. Also, shoutout to @MLBURNEY, who is also my @nabjphilly veep, for staying on a very tough situation involving the president of the Camden school advisory board. #NewJersey

Michael Aron took NJ’s political pulse for 40 years, speaking with governors, Senate presidents, Assembly speakers, U.S. senators and chief justices. He left us with this mantra: “Remember, if you’re a reporter — New Jersey never lets you down.” ow.ly/aXmp50SY57H

For myself, I remember watching his reporting online when I lived in Maryland. They were concise, detailed and informative. It’s clear why he was the dean among the state house press corps. (3/4)

It is not cliche in this instance to say that he was the gold standard when it comes to covering politics and government in our state. Whether you were just starting your career or are a veteran, he was what every reporter aims to be: accurate, fair and professional. (2/4)

We cannot possibly CONDEMN the sham that is the conviction of Evan Gershkovich any louder. We do so in the strongest possible terms. Our government needs to do what it can to secure his freedom.

Yesterday, hundreds of thousands in NJ voted against corruption in our politics, sending a clear signal they are fed up with back room deals and favors for the few. In order to have accountability and ultimately trust, we must have transparency. This law moves us backwards and as a result lessens credibility and trust. I am so disappointed to see this signed today.
