Tuchel’s assertion that the semi final loss was down to England’s ‘ DNA’ sounds awfully like him off-loading any blame. And if that is how he feels, why carry on if it is all a problem of the national psyche ? Wasn’t he appointed to change it ?

Final final thought… It’s not that Tuchel is a bad manager - he isn’t. He got England to within a whisker of a World Cup final and he made some good decisions in other games at this tournament. I don’t think he should be sacked but I do hope, in time, his changes his opinion on having ‘no regrets’. He spoke of ‘bravery’ throughout the tournament and then his team retreated to their own penalty box and gave the best player we may have ever seen space to whip the ball in time and time again. Scaloni after the game… “We smelt blood when England hesitated".

@IanDarke Tuchel HAS to learn from this mistake. It was clear from previous games that Argentina posed a threat right up to the final whistle. His singleminded approach has worked so far, but it can also be detrimental if he doesn’t appreciate where things went wrong.

Don’t want to play the blame game , but World Cups define careers. Tuchel comes out of this one as damaged goods. Tactical calamity is not an exaggeration. This was supposed to be the man on a different sophisticated elite level.

@piersmorgan Ate you saying that you would’ve made the same substitutions at the same time? I would suggest that in doing so, you would’ve shown the same level of naivety of the Argentinian threat as shown late in previous games.

Yes, England were too defensive. But the abuse pouring down on Thomas Tuchel’s head today is ridiculous. He was 5 minutes away from leading us into our first World Cup Final in 60 years. And if we’d hung on, he’d be lauded a hero today by the same people trashing him.

Tuchel said that he thought that the team could play better than they had in the Norway game. It’s a pity that for the last 20 minutes, he never gave them that opportunity.

The really annoying thing is that the @paddypower ads with Souness, Strachan & Nicholas will probably end now.
