@Jason YC combinator one I (& founder friends w similar background) found garbo. Awful signal noise ratio. Have background of building stuff + some sexy companies in your background ? -> become catnip for people not relevant to your preferences with batshit ideas / business plans.

@elonmusk Another thing is that gonna need FAA 14 CFR Part 420 to operate. But would be much easier to get (more locations locations) if it’s vertical take off and landing vs horizontal (airspace integration, safety footprint). If SpaceX could cook a vertical rocket plane that’d be 🧨🧨

@elonmusk Love the idea but wouldn’t the number of locations you can travel from/to fairly limited (FAA regulations & such)? I assume the idea is to have major rocketports hubs where you (conventionally) fly out of for last mile.

@andrewmccalip When I showed my (Belgian) grandma some pictures of the US when I first moved here, one of the first thing she said wash “you can tell they’ve never experienced the war” pointing at all the above ground power lines.

still can't decide whether this is the peak of simplicity or antiquated/slapdash engineering.

@booster_10 Flew all the way from the west coast on a red eye flight to see it. Plane was full of Tesla engineers doing the same, they invited us to a house they had rented to watch the event super close. Awesome memories. Glad I witnessed this.

The first Falcon Heavy double booster landing has quickly become one of the most iconic moments in Spaceflight history, there aren't many things that top it.

This chart is even more interesting when you reflect the capex that it has taken to generate these results.

@Jason Spent a bit of time to evaluate feasibility of launching something in that field previously. Most R&D (that scales) in this field are only incremental vs legacy systems. Two problems: efficiency and brine (byproduct of desal). Energy solves the former. Brine is more tricky.

@CJHandmer And the answer is energy. Desalination technology works. Every improvement that has been done in the field (that scales) recently have been incremental not revolutionary. Efficiency is the choking point. Make energy abundant and cheaper, water is no longer a problem. Solvable.

@MatthewBerman Got a weird one. Struggled with this in the past. Got strong ADHD (diagnosed), 100% my mind spinning. Main stuff that worked: * no “upsetting/deep” topic 1h before bed * listen to a non busy police scanner while falling asleep. It’s like white noise w some structure. Trust me.

I can't fall asleep at night. I've tried everything, nothing helps. * Exercise daily * Sunlight first thing in the morning * First and last coffee 7:30am * No screens before bed * Last meal 4 hours before bed * Meditation * Sleep restriction * I don't drink alcohol * Only get in bed when ready to sleep * Weighted blanket * 8 Sleep set to cool * Room is cold But, without fail, my brain won't let me sleep. I get to the point where I'm about to fall asleep, then I wake up and that's it...I'm up. Any suggestions are very welcome. cc @bryan_johnson

Hearing waste horror stories from friends working in the @Belgium administration ... Like: people not reporting to work; nobody gets fired, ever; you get told to work less because you are making others feel uncomfortable; etc. I'm starting to realize the enormous waste that our high taxes our paying for in Belgium. And it's interesting to see the US experiment with DOGE in parallel. Sounds to me like the solution may be to escape the "more taxes" vs "less taxes" debate and to rather push for a more efficient government. It _should_ be supported by both sides because, if the government is more efficient, it also means it has more money for actual social programs? And I will shake my head at the first person who will tell me to consider the social role of the state in creating jobs through its administration 🥲

@chamath Yes! I’ve been doing that for a while in companies I consult for. It’s eye opening for many, and pushes people to get _actual_ productive meetings.

This is one of the single best business ideas I’ve ever heard of. So many people enact Shakespearean theater at work by engaging others in useless meetings and gatherings. Stop these useless meetings and do something measurable and valuable instead. The big insight is that by eliminating so many meetings, they’ve made so many (bad) ideas become default no vs default yes. I suspect, over time, what Shopify finds by doing this is it forces real rigor in order to get projects over the line. The result is less bureaucracy, less politics, higher success and more efficiency. This probably helps keep the A/A+ talent and weeds out the Bs and Cs. A win/win for everyone. timesofindia.indiatimes.com/gadgets-news/w…
