🚨 MAMDANI: “The wealth of a median white household in the city is more than $200,000, while that of a black household is less than $20,000 … We are reckoning with the long history of racism here and starting to act upon a framework that puts equity right at the center of it.”

POV: You are a white guy in Asia

Thyroid hormone, fibrosis, and fatty liver disease. Liver fibrosis is the buildup of scar tissue caused by repeated liver injury, where chronic inflammation activates liver cells to deposit excess collagen, gradually stiffening the liver and distorting its structure. If fibrosis progresses, it can impair blood flow and liver function, evolve into cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer. Hypothyroidism is associated with increased fibrosis in fatty liver disease. “TSH ≥ 2.5 was significantly associated with increased risk of significant liver fibrosis (60% increased risk)...”PMID: 36685269 Lower thyroid hormone (T3) is associated with increased fibrosis in NAFLD. “The levels of Free T3, Free T4, Total T3 and Total T4 in patients with progressive liver fibrosis were significantly lower in patients with progressive liver fibrosis than that in patients without progressive liver fibrosis...” PMID: 35641932 Thyroid hormone T3 blocks liver fibrosis in animal experiments. “T3 is able to antagonize fibrotic processes in vivo. Liver fibrosis induced by carbon tetrachloride is attenuated by thyroid hormone administration to mice, whereas aged TR knockout mice spontaneously accumulate collagen. Furthermore, skin fibrosis induced by bleomycin administration is also reduced by the thyroid hormones. These findings define an important function of the thyroid hormone receptors and suggest TR ligands could have beneficial effects to block the progression of fibrotic diseases.” PMID: 27247403 A drug (resmetirom) that activates the thyroid hormone receptor similarly to thyroid hormone T3 improves liver fibrosis in humans. “Both the 80-mg dose and the 100-mg dose of resmetirom were superior to placebo with respect to NASH resolution and improvement in liver fibrosis by at least one stage.” NASH (nonalcoholic steatohepatitis) is a liver disease where fat buildup in the liver causes inflammation and liver cell damage, not due to alcohol use. “NASH resolution with no worsening of fibrosis was achieved in 25% of the patients in the 80-mg resmetirom group and 30% of those in the 100-mg resmetirom group, as compared with 10% of those in the placebo group. Fibrosis improvement by at least one stage with no worsening of the NAFLD activity score was achieved in 24% of the patients in the 80-mg resmetirom group and 26% of those in the 100-mg resmetirom group, as compared with 14% of those in the placebo group.” PMID: 38324483 Above range levels of thyroid hormones are also associated with liver fibrosis - it’s about getting the levels in the optimal range. Some other examples include: > Lung fibrosis > Skin keloids > Heart fibrosis “(Thyroid hormone) T3 is able to antagonize fibrotic processes in vivo... Furthermore, skin fibrosis induced by bleomycin administration is also reduced by the thyroid hormones. These findings define an important function of the thyroid hormone receptors and suggest TR ligands could have beneficial effects to block the progression of fibrotic diseases.” PMID: 27247403

Glycine lowers HbA1c from 8.3 to 6.9 in type 2 diabetes patients. The study used 5 g three times a day for 3 months. HbA1c declined significantly compared to baseline and to the placebo group. It decreased from 8.3 to 6.9 in the glycine group and from 8.0 to 7.6 in the placebo group. “The results of this study indicate that daily ingestion of glycine, 15 g for a 3-month period, modifies several parameters in patients with Type 2 diabetes. Fasting glucose levels were reduced at 3 months, but there were no differences between groups. However, A1C declined to a greater extent in the group treated with glycine... Levels of blood glucose, insulin, HOMA-IR, and all proinflammatory cytokines studied were reduced during the trial.” ! Like everything, some people have a bad reaction to glycine. Always start slow and watch for negative effects. Food sources often work better than supplements. Ref:Glycine treatment decreases proinflammatory cytokines and increases interferon-y in patients with Type 2 diabetes

Vitamin E stuff for lipid peroxidation interests For TLDR Between the two kinds, tocotrienols > tocopherols Within the types of tocotrienols, Delta > gamma > alpha > beta When comparing potencies So look for a Vitamin E, look for one with high delta and gamma tocotrienols

I wrote the most complete fat loss guide in 3 parts, based on 10 years of trial and error where I tried pretty much everything until I found a sustainable method where you don’t have to starve or constantly restrict yourself. Part 1 is about nutrition: how to raise your metabolism and a few cheat codes to speed up fat loss and avoid plateaus while keeping high energy. Part 2 is about lifestyle habits, other cheat codes outside nutrition that have a huge impact on fat loss, and a full guide on how to design the perfect training program tailored to you. Both are free. Part 3 doesn’t concern you unless you’re already around 12–15% body fat (which is also why it’s paid): it covers the full pharmacology of fat loss. Each guide is about 150 A4 pages if printed. You can find them all here: berbarianwizard.substack.com

"Wow the economy must be booming because rail volumes are way up." Re: April 2026 AAR Rail Industry Overview When diesel price rises by 45% over a couple months, it makes things more expensive to ship by truck, so shippers switch to rail which is much cheaper. With firms in no rush to process or receive goods, on account of a slowing economy, relatively slower rail service works just fine. This is not the signal you think it is. Don't get fooled again. 2008 for reference:
