They keep using the word “access” at Big 12 media days about CFP expansion. 1) It’s supposed to be hard. It’s not supposed to be about every somewhat good team getting in. 2) There are more ways for “access” other than expanding the field. The real issue is the gifts handed to less-deserving SEC teams. You know what improves the Big 12’s access? Not having Alabama get handed a free spot over 11-1 BYU last year. That’s the true problem and what should be focused on. Every single conference championship loser dropped in the rankings last year… except Alabama. Hmm… The problem is not with the CFP format. It’s a selection problem. The 2025 BYU gripe and the 2023 FSU gripe are real, but easily could’ve been avoided if certain teams weren’t constantly catered to. There’s a really simple CFP solution that can be achieved without destroying the regular season.
