Like alot of yall are NOT prepared for the reality of what caregiving is. Having your parents have to come live with you once Social Security is insolvent in 2032. ESPECIALLY Gen Z. I am 33 and my entire life has been built around knowing that eventually my mama would have to live with me. Not decades from now. Basically since I was a child (I had older parents). Yea, no. I live in Iowa, you’re speaking of the Midwest. If the solution is move here, and pick a town some distance away from the potential job market to keep cost down, you are severely downplaying the commmute during winter. The further away from the city the later in the day you’re getting plowed out, meaning you’re calling in to work, you’re spending more during those months in gas warming your vehicle etc. both my parents had 2 jobs buying a $235k average 22 miles/ 30 minutes from the nearest “big city” where there jobs were that would be a 1hr 15 minute commute during the winter. 30 minutes during regular weather, 30 additional minutes during winter to drive slower/safer, 15 minutes give or take to warm the vehicle. When you’re working 2 full time jobs for 12 years+ no vacations etc it WEARS you down. My fathers knees are in need of replacements, he had 5 back surgeries for his deteriorating discs, my mother developed plantar fibroma (knots in her arch from plantar fasciitis from being on her feet soo long) it’s not simple it’s A SLOG that nobody should have to go thru just to survive/“make it work” I’m lucky enough to be in that city and only be 6 minutes from my job (I could literally walk if I had to) that pays me well enough to afford my 3 bedroom house I purchased in 2017 for 89k that’s now valued at $123k (not a single update/upgrade to the property in that time)
