Tomorrow will be a good test for the REFS / RRFS air quality products as a substantial plume of smoke from the ongoing Canadian wildfires spills into the Great Lakes and Northeast.

The first push of smoke from the intense wildfires in Canada is making its way through the Northeast this afternoon. The bulk of this first push is largely above the surface, but more significant impacts to air quality are possible tomorrow as another batch heads into the area.

Smell smoke this morning? Its coming from a wildfire outbreak in Ontario. While it should not impact air quality much today, smoke at the surface could increase Wednesday into Thursday, potentially reducing visibilities and air quality. High temperatures may also be limited.

Things are about to heat up across the EPAC right on cue. The 12z DeepMind (FNV3) has a strong signal for two hurricanes over the next week or so...and maybe even something to keep an eye on for Hawaii down the road?

A concerning signal for excessive rainfall from eastern Pennsylvania into Connecticut. Some localized spots could pick up 10" which would lead to a flash flood risk. Too soon to say where exactly the axis of heaviest rain sets up. Stay tuned.
