It’s a pity that the @PresidencyZA, through the Deputy Minister in the Presidency @NoncebaMhlauli, has told the same small-scale or black farmers in South Africa that @GovernmentZA government has bigger problems and that they are not among those priorities. It will therefore be interesting to hear what the Deputy President, Paul Mashatile @PMashatile, has to say about the challenges facing black farmers in South Africa. sundayworld.co.za/economy/ilfs-n… @SundayWorldZA @eNCA @MDNnewss @Newzroom405 @SABCNews @jozifm @SAfmRadio

Mashatile to Face Parliamentary Grilling on Service Delivery and Economic Challenges Deputy President Paul Mashatile will appear before the National Assembly on Thursday to respond to oral questions on his delegated responsibilities, amidst growing pressure on the government to address service delivery woes and economic challenges facing the country. Mashatile is expected to field questions on the government's efforts to implement rapid response interventions to address service delivery hotspots and improve governance in municipalities across the country. The Deputy President will also be quizzed on the government's interventions to support small-scale farmers, particularly in rural and underdeveloped provinces, in the face of rising fuel and fertiliser prices. The recent fuel price hike, announced by the Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, has sparked concerns about the impact on the economy and the government's plans to mitigate the effects on vulnerable communities. Mashatile is likely to face tough questions on the government's strategy to address the issue and protect the interests of small-scale farmers. Other key areas of focus for the oral replies session include the roll-out of the District Development Model (DDM), efforts to improve coordination between different spheres of government, and measures to address organised crime and gang-related violence in the Western Cape. The session, which will be streamed live on Parliament TV and social media platforms, offers MPs an opportunity to hold the government accountable on key issues affecting the country. Mashatile's appearance comes at a time when the government is facing increasing scrutiny over its handling of the economy and service delivery. The oral replies session is scheduled to take place at 14h00 on Thursday, 21 May 2026, at the Nieuwmeester Dome in Cape Town.

Ramaphosa to Strengthen Ties with Botswana in High-Stakes State Visit President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to embark on a crucial two-day state visit to Botswana on Wednesday, where he will co-chair the Sixth Session of the South Africa-Botswana Bi-National Commission (BNC) with President Gideon Duma Boko. The visit aims to deepen the existing bilateral partnership between the two countries, with a focus on strengthening economic ties, exploring renewable energy opportunities, and consolidating relations with Botswana's new administration. South Africa and Botswana share a historically strong relationship, with bilateral trade amounting to approximately R82 billion in 2025. South Africa is Botswana's largest trading partner, accounting for over 50% of its imports. The BNC serves as a key mechanism for structured cooperation and dialogue between most of the two countries, enabling coordinated cooperation and sustained dialogue at political, technical, and economic levels. A Business Forum will be held on the margins of the BNC to strengthen private sector collaboration and facilitate business-to-business exchanges. The two countries will also explore renewable energy opportunities, with Botswana aiming to increase its renewable energy to 50% by 2030. The visit comes at a critical time, with Botswana undergoing a political transition following the October 2024 change in administration. The state visit signals the new government's intention to consolidate relations with South Africa. Ramaphosa's visit is expected to yield several agreements, with a focus on High Impact Priority Projects. The president's delegation includes ministers and senior officials, underscoring the importance of the visit. The state visit is a testament to the enduring partnership between South Africa and Botswana, and a reflection of the two countries' commitment to deepening economic ties and promoting regional growth and development.

@mybroadband Minister Malatsi does not allocate the budget. It is @ParliamentofRSA that allocates funding through the Appropriation Bill, which is then signed into law by the President. You have a duty and obligation to report the truth at all times and to educate society. The next thing you are going to say that the DA has allocated budget.
