At Wednesday lunchtime, wind turbines were spinning 24GW of energy, with another 10GW from solar. 11 weeks earlier, on a still January morning, wind and solar combined generated just 2GW. Prices jumped to £477/MWh. This is the problem with the grid Britain is building. 1/5

🚨 Holding the BBC to account: Green Party activists and candidates made horrific comments, calling Jewish people “abominations”. God forbid had this been Reform activists it would have led the news cycle behind only the war in Iran. Yet because it’s the Greens? The BBC did not even cover it.

2/ But consumers do not (indeed cannot) pay the short-run marginal cost. Consumers pay the *long-run* marginal cost - that is the fixed price a wind farm must receive in order to exist in the first place. If they aren’t guaranteed that price, they don’t get built. Simple as that.
