I took a wild guess and said Robert Peel. The answer was wrong and the other teams also didn’t know. The quiz master threw the question open to the audience. Prompt boomed in a shout from the back: Spencer Percival 1812. The answer was right and it came from none other than Shashi Tharoor. Ram Guha was in the audience and we have shared memories of this quite often.

My sister was a Surgeon Rear Admiral in the Indian Navy. To erase her service and reduce her to a stereotype says more about the mindset behind the comment than anything else. We are proud of our upbringing and our service to the nation which you are obviously incapable of understanding. From inventing a “secret MoU with China” to misrepresenting professional records, this is a pattern of assertion without evidence. Public debate deserves better than conjecture dressed up as fact.
