a rare legacy sequel that works BIG TIME. it never tries to sugar coat the previous film and respects it’s audience to react to callbacks that feel organic. the way every character still remained iconic in their characteristics and behavior already means they succeeded half way. on top of all of that, each of them have amazing arcs that add layers to the entire dynamic in the world of fashion and journalism they live in. the commentary on the death of real art and the current state of journalism are quite well explored. the film is clearly set in a time of a digital takeover yet never really showcases that visually, which I like because it stays focused on the artistry and true journalistic ideals the characters are fighting for. anne hathaway, iconic. meryl streep, iconic. emily blunt, iconic. stanley tucci, tucci. a legacy sequel done right.

@TheRochaSays There has never been a sequel in history that has topped its predecessor. By that standard, this isn’t surprising at all. It can still be a good film while not being as awesome as the first one.

Basically: “we know this isn’t a great movie, but we don’t want to shit on it too hard because we want to interview these actresses in the future”. Calling the film a “tribute act” or that it doesn’t reach “comfort-watch status” is a hilarious cop out for not just saying that it’s straight up NOT a good movie. Come on, Variety. Be Best.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 reactions feel incredibly muted. The general consensus seems to be: it’s fine, story is timely but this sequel isn’t really necessary or worth the wait. Of course, no surprise that the cast is great because all the main actors are Hollywood icons and are doing the heavy lifting with ease. I guess it’s a good sign that no one appears to outright hate it, but very few seem genuinely blown away by it.
