@PLTenjoyer @gabriberton What I mean is that while we can take inspiration from biology and neuroscience, it doesn't mean we need to copy nature to a T. We're trying to build intelligent machines, not humans. Just like when we were trying to build flying machines we didn't make a bird.

@gabriberton I always wanted to see evolutionary algorithms succeed, but I'm starting to think we're stuck with backprop and gradient descent.

@WhereEroge Damn. Well, I hope people weren't rude to you about it at least. I think everyone hates the guts of at least one out of the main trio. It's just, there's variety as to which one that is XD

@Thyndd It is, got too many comments that I can count. But then I saw other people go at each other xD Then I realized it's a story where unless you're the author, everybody will have their own opinion on it, due to it imitating real life, where ppl are not rational.

Finished #wa2 part 1 I'll get hate, but I don't want to lie. Unlike a certain asshole. Setsuna and Haruki are just horrible people. 1 manipulator, 1 cheater and 1 victim. I didn't enjoy the story, but it was entertaining And now, 2nd starts... how will this dumpster fire end?

@WhereEroge Really, getting fired up means you're getting emotionally invested. WA2 doesn't hinge on you liking the characters as people. I don't think it's uncommon or a "a hot take" to have a love-hate relationship with them.

Woke up to like 50 #wa2 comments, holy damn. It seems this story is divisive. I don't want to be seen as going against anyone's favorite character. This is just how I experience the story, based on my life experience. I'll cut back on the comments in this context

sorry for the long post. after a night of sleep and some more reflection i just want to say this and be done with this conversation: yes i handled that poorly yesterday. i was genuinely overwhelmed because rev was streaming the whole time this was happening last night (and his stream was about something else entirely) and people kept getting in his chat and accusing him of being anti censorship and if he was going to address “the controversy” and it was making me stressed because i was causing him unneeded stress. i definitely don’t want to drag him into anything ever again. and so i definitely got defensive and instead of just being more clear when some people asked valid questions, i was upset that i felt people were accusing me of some things i don’t actually believe, and him too. i do realize that wasn’t everyone’s intentions though, and im sorry for assuming. i also want to apologize to katie, i am sorry, i very well could have misread things in the moment on your second reply and jumped the gun on you by blocking you, and some others as well. my responses were petty and not kind or loving so i am sorry for that. i am anti-censorship. i did end up clarifying this yesterday but i know some people want further clarification. i mentioned the prostitution laws because i do find it ironic that it’s illegal to pay a prostitute to sleep with you, but if you were to film it and call her an “actress” and pay for that, it’s legal. but that wasn’t me saying that i think censorship is the solution or that all porn should be illegal. i do think porn, specifically involving irl people, can be really predatory and exploitative, and while i do find drawn porn “sinful” i dont view it in the exact same way, this is what i was referring to about things not always being so “black and white” to me. but i am a Christian, so yes, i do believe porn is sinful. and for more clarification, i have always been under the impression that loli was not inherently sexual, its a petite fictional bodytype, but i was referring to lolicon specifically in an nsfw/porn context, so maybe there was some confusion there for some people. when i said lolicon (porn) or ANY porn for that matter is “bad”, i am speaking about it from a Christian perspective, because it is a Christian belief that all porn is bad. but that IS NOT a call for censorship or harassment over these things, people have a right to choose these things for themselves, i want to make that clear. i said it before many times and i will say it again, it isn’t CSEM and im not calling anyone a p*do over this. and this doesn’t mean i am trying to hate on you, i don’t look at you as less than, im certainly not perfect (as you have surely seen). and if you aren’t a Christian i honestly don’t expect you to agree with me anyways. we can agree to disagree if you don’t like my position of porn being sinful, but my position on it is firm. some people made some claims about “would you want me jailed for watching porn” etc and my honest answer is no, of course i wouldn’t. if im also honest, i do not personally see how we could even ban porn in the first place, it certainly feels like a pandora’s box that cannot be closed once it has been opened, and i would honestly worry about the type of government that would be able to do these things and where else it could lead to as well… but i also want to be honest and say that i am not a scholar or lawmaker, i dont have all the answers to everything and sometimes i genuinely see multiple sides to something and its hard for me to give black and white, crystal clear answers. especially on twitter.

"My wife did not say that" Also "Yes my wife said that". Rev you are not doing well with the PR talk. This is why I guess you have been trying to hide from this topic for so long, and why you no longer defend people calling for censorship and calling the community pedo's. Actions speak louder than words
TotallyG 🎲@TotallyG_tweet

Here’s Rev himself talking about the whole thing. And yes, I am clipping you because people aren’t talking about you ‘not consuming that stuff’, but because people are aware of your defence of the more general material. Remember the thing with Lugunica in Re:Zero Season 3? That.

I would be on your side on this BUT you have shown that you will no longer cover or defend people calling loli content pedo or asking for censorship on said content since the time you went back to Christ. That pattern has been noticed by many that you have moved VERY heavy away from defending loli based content, yet you both still have a loli char. Its very clear you don't think 100% the same anymore, but you are hiding from the back lash. Because Actions speak louder than words.
Rev says I love my wife@Rev_says_desu

Since apparently this has to be said, my stance on censorship has not changed. No, liking loli does not make you a pedophile. No, that and other taboo fictional content should not be censored. No, you should not be harassed over fictional content even if its “weird” or “degenerate”. Yes, you should be allowed to make your own choices with the fictional content you consume. I have been very open about coming back to Christ about a year ago and I don’t want to be engaging in these subjects, specifically in covering the more explicit aspects of it, in the same manner as I used to. This is what I am comfortable with. I hope people can respect that boundary. However, it does not mean my stances have changed in a general sense. People have the right to choose what fictional content they consume personally and shouldn’t be harassed for it or certain artwork subject to censorship because of its nature. I have said nothing to the contrary. Things could have been worded more clearly from Strawb, this entire conversation seemed to stress her out a lot and she admitted to not handling it the best way, but comparing me or her to “antis” without even waiting for an explanation is jumping the gun. We have been defending people censored and harassed over these topics for years at the cost of harassment, threats, and slander directed towards us but we still don’t regret doing it. My core audience knows how I feel about all of this but I hope this clarifies some things. Thanks.

@burny_tech To play devil's advocate, we don't need AGI to solve the Riemann hypothesis, and in fact my bet is on that happening way before we achieve something we might call AGI.

Burny - Effective Curiosity
It will be fun when AI in the future will solve something equivalent to the Riemann hypothesis and people will be like "meh that's, not impressive, that's just stochastic parroting and pattern matching, math isn't real thinking and intelligence, everything needed was already in the training data anyway"

AI outputs are nondeterministic (even at temp zero) because of rounding errors that depend on summation order which depends on threading. I met some (highly educated) folks who heard this and got spooked that maybe AI *can* truly think after all.

Big Brain AI@realBigBrainAI·
Director James Cameron on why Big Tech owning AGI is scarier than any science fiction he's ever made: "AGI will not emerge from a government funded program. It will emerge from one of the tech giants currently funding this multi-billion dollar research." And when that happens, he warns, you won't get a vote on it: "So then you'll be living in a world that you didn't agree to, didn't vote for, that you are co-inhabiting with a super intelligent alien species that answers to the goals and rules of a corporation." A corporation that already knows everything about you: "An entity which has access to the comms, beliefs, everything you ever said, and the whereabouts of every person in the country via your personal data." From there, the slide toward something far darker is shorter than most people think: "Surveillance capitalism can toggle pretty quickly into digital totalitarianism." And even the best-case outcome isn't reassuring. Tech giants becoming the self-appointed arbiters of human good is, as he puts it, the fox guarding the hen house. He's not buying the idea that these companies would stay benevolent with that kind of power: "They would never ever think of using that power against us and strip mining us for our last drop of cash." The sarcasm is the point. Cameron has spent four decades imagining worst-case futures on screen. His verdict on this one: "That's a scarier scenario than what I presented in the Terminator 40 years ago, if for no other reason than it's no longer science fiction."

@SethC1995 As a linguistics nerd, I understand that keeping honorifics doesn't make any more sense than keeping any other aspect of the Japanese language. However, within the western anime sphere it has come to be expected that the honorifics stay. It's part of the culture already.

As a translator, the only time I think honorifics should be preserved is when the setting actually takes place within Japan. Re:Zero is a non-Japanese fantasy world, so I'd be more inclined to drop honorifics in lieu of things like "Mister" or "Lady" to better fit the setting.
Chibi Reviews@ChibiReviews

We need to have a conversation about the cultural erasure of honorfics We always saw "San", "chan", "sama", "kun" in anime, but now we dont. They are now replaced with Mister or Lady. Like wtf
