@gettingb1gger @slaychael @ReuelWilliams3 It’s absurd, obviously. But this is the internal logic of the “farming is worse than the holocaust” argument that I’m responding to. It’s why I think people SAY these things, but they don’t really believe them or they would act very differently.

@gettingb1gger @slaychael @ReuelWilliams3 If so, we have a moral imperative to prevent such killing, and that’s what we do. But if the vegan says killing animals is equally bad, there is an equal moral imperative to prevent such killing, regardless of who does the killing or how morally culpable they are.

Very dumb. You think eating meat is ok because they aren’t human. Slave owners thought it was ok to torture black people because they aren’t *white*. The moral circle has then since extended beyond whiteness and it will extend beyond humanity.

Ok but a cow is categorically not a human so it’s not the same issue. 100 years from today they will not discover that a cow is a human.

@Timcanrun @Verdigris4973 @vgn_karma “scale at which other animals kill other animals” and a lion only kills around 15 animals per year. compare that to 200 million EVERY DAY.

@sneakynicorn @Verdigris4973 @vgn_karma Lol, you think lions ask for consent. Lions literally kill for power in their packs, aside from the whole kill for food thing. And when you extrapolate that to the entire animal kingdom, humanity is by far the most humane.

@Timcanrun @Verdigris4973 @vgn_karma yk you should watch some documentaries about animal farms. there are plenty on youtube. a lion doesn’t rape, breed, mentally and physically torture, and then slaughter 200 million animals each day. but sure, disrupting the natural flow of things is the way to go.

@sneakynicorn @Verdigris4973 @vgn_karma It’s not a different point. It is THE point that underpins this whole vegan argument. And it’s not crazy at all. I don’t think you have any idea of the scale at which animals kill other animals for food. If killing animals is wrong (even for food) we should stop it.

@Timcanrun @Verdigris4973 @vgn_karma that’s a different point. a lion hunting a deer in the wild for its own survival may produce suffering, but it’s completely crazy to compare that to how humans farm animals. we have a choice. lions don’t.

@sneakynicorn @Verdigris4973 @vgn_karma …whether the killer is human or animal. (I mean, animals obviously kill with intent, epically when killing to feed.) It is probably easier to prevent the killing of animals by animals than it is to prevent the killing of animals by humans, so why not focus on that?

@sneakynicorn @Verdigris4973 @vgn_karma The argument is that animal life is equivalent to human life (eg farming and eating animals has been compared to the holocaust). The logical implication is that, whether the perpetrator is culpable or not, the killing of the animals is wrong. And that holds, regardless of…

@Silverback_MD Poor high income earning doctor with the opportunity to buy a home and live a comfortable life at the very pinnacle of living standards in all of history and save and bequeath this wealth to your children. I can only imagine how hard this must be for you.

lol My mates and I are doctors in our 20s/30s/40s starting off our careers. Absolutely everyone is gobsmacked at the budget changes. Genuinely feels like our generation will get punished for working smart or hard. None of us own investment properties yet - what’s the point now? How do we get ahead now? What was the financial incentive to sacrifice our 20s to train? It feels like all the worst aspects of communism with none of the benefits….. No incentivised housing/travel/childcare for doctors No one in my group is having kids Yet our alcoholic patients are on their 4th or 5th - supported via government programs What a joke Speedrunning civilisational demise

@Verdigris4973 @Timcanrun @vgn_karma Supplements cannot work for carnivores. We are omnivores, our digestive system can process varied diets and we can consciously manage nutrition. Cats, for example, have highly specialised biology. Making a species wide artificial diet is far more complicated than us taking b12.

@morsequal @vgn_karma Just because we can’t stop all animal on animal violence, that doesn’t change the moral imperative to stop the violence that we CAN stop. That is such a spurious argument it borders on immoral itself. “We couldn’t save all the children so we didn’t save any.” Come on.

Albanese can't Budget because he's lived off the taxpayer his whole life - most of it as a politician. He'll continue to live off the taxpayer in retirement. This Budget contains no risk for him. His future comfort is guaranteed. Like so many 'socialists' that claim to serve the working class, he lives off the productivity of the working class without producing anything himself other than tax hikes. When are people going to wake up.

@ajamesbragg You’re not going to win this one, because you’re talking about “building wealth” to a generation that can barely own a home to live in. “Building wealth” is not where they are. Meet them where they are. Focus on CGT, roll it back, leave the negative gearing.

Mr Albanese has spent decades using negative gearing to build his wealth. Good on him. Now he’s ripping away these opportunities for younger generations.

@sneakynicorn @vgn_karma Is that a fact or an assumption or an opinion or a guess? If humans can survive without meat, we should obviously help our animal friends to do the same.

@slaychael @ReuelWilliams3 “Do you think eating meat is ok because they aren’t human?” The statement implies that treating humans and animals differently is a false dichotomy (ie they are equivalent).

@Timcanrun @ReuelWilliams3 Is that his argument? Can you point me to that (genuinely)? I assumed that his argument was predicated on the idea that humans, as morally conscious beings, have the capability/capacity to empathise with animals and thus seek food that doesn’t necessitate mass-production of meat
