We try not to yell at the TV screen, but sometimes its not easy..
With Jack Tame on Q and A this morning, ACT's new candidate Paul Henry missed an excellent opportunity to advocate for lower corporate taxes in New Zealand.
Mr Henry was tasked with fighting back against the host's subtle advocacy for legislation that would force Google to share its profits with local media.
"What would you do?" (to equal the playing field) Tame asked Henry.
Without actually naming the legislation Henry waffled on about what he wouldn't do. When what he should have said was-
"Well, the obvious solution is to lower NZ's corporate tax rate (28%) to what it is in Singapore (17%). Then Google would have no motive to shift its profits offshore and New Zealand would gain so much more in tax revenue.
Mr Henry is only new at the job, so we have to give him some latitude.
IMHO though, a response like that would have wiped the irritating smirk off Jack Tame's perpetually superior face.

Michael Laws “Ideology is the enemy of common sense”. @nzfirst
Absolutely agree.

@ChrisPenknz With respect, the fastest way to lose to is be divided as a coalition. Voters look for and deserve certainty.
The left are a cluterfuck. But the centre/right can do much better.
English

@daveginvesting Potentially. It also depends on a shareholders country’s tax rules too, as that can impact any gains realised by any trims made and the overall investment strategy of revenue vs capital etc.

That’s the first I heard of it as a young Kiwi amateur astronomer in New Zealand.

$RKLB 🚀
These weren't nine lost months for me.
Since my first investment in 2024,
I accumulated nearly 20,000 shares, including purchases made through my family's accounts.
When RKLB reached $100 and later $150, I took some profits,
but I continue to hold a significant position.
During the recent correction, I rebuilt my position to around 10,000 shares.
Rocket Lab has done more than grow my portfolio.
It changed the way I think about investing and introduced me to an entirely new world—the space industry.
Thank you, @RocketLab and @Peter_J_Beck.🙆
The current pullback may feel difficult, but compared with the journey we've already been through...
This too shall pass. 🚀⌛
English

@PistoffChristof Great question and one we all had prior to the IPO. Had a suspicion it would pull RKLB etc down with it, but not to this extent. We’ve certainly had a heck of a drop and reset.
English

@ToasterNZ I wonder if SpaceX starts dropping will it just drag rocket lab lower and lower? 😞
English

Space stock bubble has well and truly popped.
We had a massive run up and an equally tragic plummet.
But for some, we have already been through it before.
For capital long term investors like me, we just have to shake it off, log out, put down the phone, and give it time to sort out the performers from the hype stocks and see who grows from here as performance catches up with valuations (eventually).

A tweet that won’t make me a lot of friends :
$LUNR has never landed a single thing straight on the moon
$RDW rug pulls its shareholder base every so often (look at the chart)
$ASTS hasn’t deployed a single satellite this year
$FLY hasn’t reached any type of meaningful cadence on launch
$VOYG had NASA drastically reduce its participation in private space stations citing not any viable commercial case
In general, space is extremely hard and none of these companies have proven that they can execute at scale, and turn a profit
All of these are riding one thing : the SpaceX IPO momentum
If you’re making life changing money it’s super cool, just make sure you understand why all space stocks are pumping +15% everyday
English

@vinceisbullish I remember all your early YouTube videos back then too when we were in the $3.50-$5 range for two years.
English

I have added more Rocket Lab via selling puts and then using the money to buy leaps!
The price is getting too cheap to ignore at this point.
Also calling my family to make sure they don’t miss this dip.
The stock still might go lower, but at this point it felt stupid not to buy.
After having owned Rocket Lab since $4, the volatility is part for the course.

Hang on a minute, I thought ACT was all for freedom and liberty? odt.co.nz/news/national/…
English

@MarkHubbard33 I’m sure you’ll have plenty time mate to enjoy the investment in due course. Exciting year or two ahead as they expand and get their medium lift Neutron into space!
English

@ToasterNZ Across one's life current $RKLB is no doubt a sure winner and great price to get in or add.
Unless one's life hasn't got long to go :) In which case - and I'm not in that position other than being 60 - not the best.
English

@winstonpeters @actparty is supposed to stand for less government, less tax, more freedom.
Banning phones is none of that.
English

The government should not take over parental decisions about what kind of phones or technology our kids have just to try and solve social media issues.
Banning smartphones for under 16s won’t solve anything apart from making our country sound like it’s turning into some sort of totalitarian state.
Why are some parties thinking it’s now an acceptable option for the government to take away parent’s rights to make decisions for their children?
Where has the expectation of parental responsibility gone?

English

@AceCrouton @DaSteeringWheel Even the opening spike was sold off over the day. Certainly feels bearish even down here at this level. Ugh….😣
