@keatsie777 @NFBUK @cityoflondon So you'd prefer a design which puts cyclists back with regular traffic?
English

@TofuDood @NFBUK @cityoflondon Not having a stupid floating bus stop that involves the most vulnerable road users (pedestrians) having to cross traffic of any kind to get on the bus. Surprisingly, it always used to work.
English

New zebra crossing at Blackfriars Station floating bus stop. We have tried to explain to @cityoflondon why these bus stops are not safe or accessible for blind people but more are being planned. @citylordmayor can we urgently meet to discuss our concerns please. This is dangerous
English

@TofuDood @NFBUK @cityoflondon How about cyclists being made to follow the law and being punished severely if they don’t lad
English

@NFBUK @mysaymysay1 @cityoflondon Right, but the question is whether that is better or worse than how many injuries would have happened if cyclists were still mixed in with traffic.
English

@mysaymysay1 @TofuDood @cityoflondon St Thomas’s floating bus stops. Filmed 3 injuries there in 2024 and two others are found on crashmap. 5 in one year. Not safe and not accessible. x.com/NFBUK/status/1…

@TofuDood @NFBUK @cityoflondon It's a regression for pedestrians, a solution that places pedestrians & the most vulnerable is danger is not a solution.
Imagine if the cyclist gave way to pedestrians or even slowed right down at a floating bus stop. The problem here is cyclists behavior.
English

@KillTheCars @NinoushkaLondon @NFBUK @cityoflondon Perhaps a full signalled crossing would be better?
English

@HereHareHa @NFBUK @cityoflondon Agreed. Cyclist coming in at 15-20mph might not even see the markings until they're almost on top of them (granted that's not what happens in the clip), especially as they're raised. Seems like half an installation.
English

@TofuDood @NFBUK @cityoflondon Looks like a nightmare. Why no stripy poles and yellow balls like on roads? It seems like the cyclists are just not aware rather than choosing to endanger people.
I'm not familiar with these set ups, is there a constant flow of pedestrians and cyclists- is that the issue?
English

@mysaymysay1 @NFBUK @cityoflondon Which is more dangerous for cyclists - a regression. I'm asking if there is a design which still protects cyclists from road traffic without being a negative for pedestrians.
English

@TofuDood @NFBUK @cityoflondon A policy of pedestrians first with provisions made for those with disabilities.
Cyclists can use the bus lane.
English

@Dan_1200RT @charliechiv @NFBUK @cityoflondon Well lots of the replies wanted cyclists to be put back with the regular traffic including cars and buses, which is presumably less safe than this design.
Hence I was asking if they had a design in mind that was better for pedestrians, without reducing cyclist safety.
English

@TofuDood @charliechiv @NFBUK @cityoflondon Protect cyclists from having to stop at zebra crossings?
English

@NinoushkaLondon @NFBUK @cityoflondon Not necessarily, but when they are criticising the current design I think it's fair to ask what design they would prefer.
English

@TofuDood @NFBUK @cityoflondon Is it the job of the NFBUK to come up with an alternative design? This design clearly does not work. TFL and whoever came up with this need to go back to the drawing board & start again.
English

@charliechiv @NFBUK @cityoflondon I agree with you, which is why I'm asking what better design they would propose to protect both cyclists and pedestrians better.
English

@TofuDood @NFBUK @cityoflondon It’s not about cyclist what about pedestrians with disabilities like myself I have been shouted at sworn out on that crossing because an entitled cyclist has had to stop
English

@Carm5012 @NFBUK @cityoflondon Agreed. Is there a design change that can be made here to incentivise better cyclist behaviour (or disincentivise bad cyclist behaviour)?
English

@TofuDood @NFBUK @cityoflondon Doesn't need an alternative - cyclists obey the law and stop at the crossing
English

@mysaymysay1 @NFBUK @cityoflondon Sure - so my question is what alternative design is being proposed?
English

@TofuDood @NFBUK @cityoflondon What's your alternative to ignoring those with and without disabilities?
Floating bus stops are not only dangerous they're anti-pedestrian.

Quite the opposite. Capitalism has reduced poverty so extensively that the World Bank regularly has to push the poverty line up.

John Rad@JohnRad15
Capitalism has *not* reduced poverty, so capitalists had to invent the concept of "extreme poverty" to make the graph go down.

The thing about bond markets is that if Labour said:
"We're going to borrow this money to do a massive investment in nuclear energy, built to Korean standards, we're going to expand our airports and ports, renew and expand Britain's highway and rail systems, renew Britain's armed services and we're going to dramatically overhaul our planning and approvals system to do it rapidly"
Labour would get a very positive response from the markets and its borrowing rate would fall.
Unfortunately what Labour tells the markets is "we're going to borrow money and throw it at our client groups - welfare recipients, pensioners, the public sector and unions - basically the least productive members of society". Oddly enough this doesn't go down very well.
