If young people simply need to save more to get on the property ladder - by giving up nights out and holidays - how come lockdown didn’t result in an influx of homeowners?

@justadiver1999 @Backpainandwine Agree with both points. Would also point out, with tongue in cheek, that the childless and those with kids are currently taxed...so maybe let's stick to the status quo on this one

Millennials and young people are keeping very very little of their incomes at present, through a mixture of tax hikes and rent. And no one seems to care about this. Do we not matter? Or is our destiny to be the nation's wallet?

No wonder the tories have no vision. The cost of petrol has made testing your eyes prohibitively expensive.

@SchoolsWeek @Jeffery_Quaye I agree with most of this, but don't think it captures the essence of SM. SM should be thought of as what we'd see in society if background was as irrelevant as the day of the week on which you were born. As part of that we'd see long and short range social mobility.

There’s nothing to celebrate about a #rentersreform bill. Your landlord can no longer make you homeless? Great - it’s almost like this is the bare minimum for a developed society. Don’t be taken in by it. We deserve homes. That’s the issue. Ps. Tories you haven’t put this to bed.

@johnredwood What's wrong with building homes? Conservative ideology tells young people that hard work pays off. But actually it goes towards landlords - because of refusal to build. What formula are we supposed to follow to have some long-term stability? Or do we not matter compared to land?

My grandad was a engineer at the BBC and my grandma didn't work. They were able to buy a London house with garden and send my Mum to private school. Different world.

@Samfr Hull was due to the council's poor execution of LTN . I'll admit LDs perform locally. Nationally, however, they are focussed on wealthy Blue Wall voters - not addressing inequalities. Zero fees not necessarily progressive. 9k fees definitely regressive.

@TomMoule8 I don't accept that they are pro austerity or pro North/South divide - they just won councils in Hull, Stockport and Cumbria. Tuition fees are not an anti-progressive policy (compare to Scotland who don't have them.) Nimby-ness alone does not make them right wing.

@ArtBear1000 @Samfr Fair. But my argument is that LD know they can claim whatever they like in their manifestos because they - unlike T and L - will never be the senior party of Govt. So there's no point using their current manifesto pledges to demonstrate how progressive they are.

@TomMoule8 @Samfr 1)Ever wondered why the Conservatives aren't held to the 999 times they have broken manifesto pledges but Libdems are held to 1 event in a junior coalition position. 2)Can we name any manifesto pledge not broken by Tories from last GE?
