@Sam_Dumitriu This was only 12% affordable housing. The average price for the market sale homes would have been £710k. In a borough where the average household income is £44k. Those homes would have done nothing to meet local needs.

Labour were elected on a pledge to get Britain building again, but their councillors (Planning Chair btw) block 850+ homes on Brownfield land in the most expensive city in the country. Labour are unlikely to outbuild the last Govt, let alone build 1.5m homes.
Richard Livingstone@Livingstone_RJ

I'm delighted that the planning inspectorate has backed @lb_southwark in turning down Berkeley Homes' Aylesham shopping centre application - which both reduced retail space & provided just 12% social housing. Well done to the local councillors & residents who made the case.

@JAHeale Lots of local issues in Surrey to do with the competence of local government here. Don’t think I’d read too much about national politics from this

A Liberal Democrat source tells me: “West Surrey is set to go Lib Dem gold. Even in Jeremy Hunt’s backyard people are fed up with Kemi chasing Reform’s tail. Despite their best Ken Baker impression the Conservative Party is simply having a dreadful day.”

Many people do not seem to want data centres built near them, despite the fact that they don't cause that much traffic and often generate a lot of local tax revenue. I suspect it's partly because they're ugly! My proposal:

UK government to increase heat pump grants to £9000 for those with oil and LPG heating. Generous for sure but fully closes the risk of a cost gap and may even provide a small excess for those with small homes (typically the least well off). (1/2)

We’re facing the second fossil fuel shock in less than 5 years. Events far away are once again impacting families and businesses here at home. We can’t go on leaving our country so exposed. The solution lies in clean homegrown power we control. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

So is @sonos a dead duck now? No real effort to return aesthetic or functionality. Still a lot of expensive gear that barely works. Is there an alternative 3rd party software that gets it back to what it was a decade ago?

I might be the only person who cares about this but I can't believe Apple no longer sells a 32" monitor. Their new high-end monitors are all 27" and you can no longer buy a 32" monitor from them. I can never go back to 27" so I guess I'll be buying non-Apple monitors from now on.

@DaleVince @TiceRichard Hi dale. Just throwing it out there, wouldn’t we get a load of extra tax revenue on it though? So unless we copied the US model (which we could) we perhaps wouldn’t directly “save” but we could reinvest that tax to subsidise retail gas costs

Real muppet alert, US shale gas is so cheap because the US controls the price and restricts export. The UK does neither, we pay global prices for our own gas. Doesn't matter how much more we make, it can save us a penny. @TiceRichard

great manoeuvre by RFU and Prem Rugby. Years ago they started strangling Champ clubs by always switching regs on promotion and relegation, slashed the grants to the Champ to pitiful levels - now they have abandoned promotion and relegation because none of the Champ clubs are good enough. Wonder why!! Despicable. Another nail in coffin of rugby's supposed fairness and togetherness

Reform incapable of taking the respectable L. 29% in a random inner-city Manchester seat is really quite good for them. Are they going to blame "dangerous Muslim sectarianism" for every seat they fail to win at the general election?
Matt Goodwin@GoodwinMJ

Statement: “We are losing our country. A dangerous Muslim sectarianism has emerged. We have only one general election left to save Britain. Vote Reform every chance you get. I will continue the fight. I will always fight for you. I will stand at the next general election. Matt.”

Recent Ukrainian tactical counterattacks have reportedly liberated multiple small settlements along the Yanchur and Haichur rivers in the Oleksandrivka and Hulyaipole directions. These Ukrainian counterattacks are likely leveraging the recent block on Russian forces’ access to Starlink, which Russian milbloggers have claimed is causing communications and command and control (C2) issues on the battlefield. Recent tactical Ukrainian counterattacks in the Oleksandrivka and Hulyaipole directions have likely further hindered Russian forces’ ability to properly prepare for a summer offensive toward Orikhiv and Zaporizhzhia City from the east.

NEW: The Kremlin continues to discuss future elections in Ukraine to advance its false claim that the current Ukrainian government is illegitimate and insists on means of controlling Ukraine’s politics. More Key Takeaways: The Kremlin continues to signal that it will reject any election result that does not produce such a pro-Russia government in Ukraine. Long-term, meaningful US security guarantees for Ukraine must precede a war termination agreement to prevent the Kremlin from following through on its stated intent to reject such guarantees after Ukraine has committed to ceding territory. General Staff Army General Valery Gerasimov continues to aggrandize Russian seizures of small villages and fields to influence ongoing negotiations and push the West and Ukraine to give in to Russian territorial demands. Russian gains continue to move at a footpace and do not portend the collapse of the Ukrainian lines. Recent Ukrainian tactical counterattacks have reportedly liberated multiple small settlements along the Yanchur and Haichur rivers in the Oleksandrivka and Hulyaipole directions. Russia is reportedly testing a stratospheric communications system as an alternative to Starlink, which some Russian milbloggers have already dismissed as an inadequate replacement. Ukrainian forces recently advanced in northern Kharkiv Oblast and in the Oleksandrivka and Hulyaipole directions. (1/2)
