Brick has thermal mass. It absorbs heat during the day and releases it slowly at night. No AC running all day. No imported cladding. Just a material that understands the climate it sits in. House Lincoln; Lane Cove, Sydney, Australia. A 1950s brick bungalow extended with a new brick tower. Same material, same logic, decades apart. @joshmandla @briansimasiku True, Someone I know was in a Roman Catholic school, wen they broke the school rules. They were chased just weeks to the final exams.

@briansimasiku As parents we enrol our children into these schools well aware of their rules and regulations. When our children break the same rules and the school takes action, we then blame the school. Why?

A public school in Lusaka decided a missed “day of prayer deserved academic punishment. So 200+ pupils were barred from exams. They then refused to address the pupils’ parents. Institutional arrogance 101 🙆‍♂️

@Patriotic_610 Chinese Universities have more than 30,000 Students in a single campus but don't experience the kind of challenges we are going through as a country. Infrastructure has to be maintained & serviced regularly. There are no two ways about it.

ZAMBIA MACRO NOTE: A Little Here, a Little There The fiscal cost of Zambia's fuel tax suspension is small. The pressures it compounds are not. Cabinet suspended excise and zero-rated VAT on petrol and diesel for three months. The fiscal cost: ZMW3.3 to 4.6 billion, or 1.3 to 1.8 per cent of the budget. By itself, manageable. It does not arrive by itself. The IMF flagged early signs of fiscal slippage before the oil price surge. Domestic VAT reached only 34 per cent of its 2025 target. Import VAT was compressed by Kwacha appreciation through the assessment formula. The 2026 VAT target requires 46 per cent growth from that combined base. Mineral royalties are nearly fully offset by currency strength. The bond market just undersubscribed for the first time in 2026. One poor financing month pushed the required allocation rate from 89 to 95 per cent. A ZMW14.6 billion maturity wall arrives in June. None of these is a crisis. All of them are moving in the same direction. After moving to Chitambo, I got to realise that most of these rural towns (Serenje -Mpika)are dotted with white folks. They are deep in these areas & doing exceptionally well. They run game reserves, even small aerodromes like kasanka in Chitambo servicing silverland & shabo.

Guys, news reporting can't be this bad. Since lunchtime today, I've been hearing about the new ZNBS Building. All the news channels are just saying "in Lusaka" no area name, no road name, no nothing. If the building is in Chibolya, there's need to be ashamed of it.

Growing up in Nigeria You see a class of 50 pupils Only 10 are bright and are doing well The remaining 40 are struggling Many of us did not know that amongst those 40 were special kids who were not olodos but couldn't learn with the structure provided - Some needed visual learning - Some needed reinforcement learning - Some needed mind mapping and other techniques But they could not get it. So, the system called all of them Olodo. They grew up with the low self esteem and gave up on themselves

This 3,400-acre offgrid campus in Rwanda 🇷🇼 was built by 2,500 people from the earth beneath it. Most people think building with earth means small, temporary, or weak. This is a 2-storey, 69-building campus. Built with rammed earth and earth blocks made from soil dug on site, strengthened to last and resist earthquakes. Here is what that looks like: • No artificial lighting during the day • Thick walls that regulate temperature • Mostly naturally ventilated spaces • Runs entirely on solar, producing 1.5MW of power • Wastewater is treated and reused for irrigation But the architecture goes beyond performance. • 90% of the workforce was local • 96% of materials were sourced within Rwanda • 90% of the budget stayed within 500 miles of the site • Stone from local quarries reduced concrete use. • Roofs were built with timber and terracotta tiles fired using agricultural waste. This is not just sustainable design. It is economic design. It is design that works with nature. It is design shaped by people and place. Architecture that builds with people, not just for them. Chitambo DC resigns, some letters written by some government officials when they resign you can laugh. They should be hiring professional people to write for them because they're so unprofessional and worse off been addressed to the president in such a manner.

It’s a privilege to date or befriend people whose interests are shaped by knowledge & deep curiosity about social & cultural dynamics. A lot shifted after COVID. If you don’t read, at least pursue a hobby that stretches your imagination beyond the mundane. You can still be cool.
