A public school in Lusaka decided a missed “day of prayer deserved academic punishment. So 200+ pupils were barred from exams. They then refused to address the pupils’ parents. Institutional arrogance 101 🙆‍♂️

@chrismushinka @yearnedm1 @briansimasiku Why would one enter someones house and say change these rules? No one was forced to enter. The very fact that a baptism certificate is not a requirement when enrolling shows that they embrace everyone. However once you enter do as Romans do.

The Anti‑Corruption Commission has recorded a warn‑and‑caution statement from Tonse Alliance President Brian Mundubile over a K1.5bn road contract probe. His lawyer George Chisanga says the matter was audited in 2015 with no irregularities and questions the timing.

@BuyoyaJonah A thousand other cases were audited and cases shoved under the mattress period 2011 to 2021. This is seen in the convictions of the likes of Bowman and Co. Even UPND will go through the same at some point. But of paramount importance should be whether or not Brian is culpable.

South Africa is failing too many young women 💔 A student with dreams of becoming a teacher pushed into desperate choices because of poverty. This isn’t entertainment it’s a reality check. We need to talk about economic hardship, exploitation, and protecting our youth. 🇿🇦

@FMwenge The announcement seemed more like a political statement without much practical application. It feels a bit contradictory to discuss a 24-hour economy while the ban on night travel for PSV buses is still active. Among many other things.

There's no mention of the costs of running business at night and if the benefits outweigh those costs.
Jito Kayumba@JitoKayumba

The 24 Hour Economy Cabinet’s move toward a 24-hour economy marks a seismic shift in the nation’s economic philosophy. Historically, our markets, offices, and industries have followed the traditional "8-to-5" rhythm, effectively leaving the gears of productivity idle for two-thirds of every day. By transitioning to a round-the-clock model, Zambia isn't just extending business hours; it is expanding the very horizon of what our economy can achieve. The benefits of this decision ripple across every sector of society, from the bustling streets of Lusaka to the industrial heart of the Copperbelt. 1. Job Creation and the "Shift" Advantage The most immediate impact is the creation of a multi-shift labour market. To operate 24/7, businesses must hire more staff to cover night shifts. Youth Employment: This creates a massive entry point for young Zambians looking for flexible work or full-time roles in retail, logistics, and security. 2. Maximizing Infrastructure and Capital Under a 12-hour model, expensive machinery and infrastructure sit dormant at night. A 24-hour cycle ensures that Manufacturing plants operate at peak efficiency, lowering the unit cost of production. Road networks are utilised during off-peak hours, reducing daytime congestion and speeding up the logistics of moving goods to our land-linked neighbours. 3. Enhanced Public Safety and Service Delivery A city that never sleeps is often a city that is safer. Increased night-time activity necessitates better street lighting and more active policing, which naturally deters crime. Access to Services: Imagine being able to process a permit, visit a clinic, or handle banking needs after your own work shift ends. This levels the playing field for the average worker. 4. Revenue Generation For the government, more business hours mean more transactions, leading to increased VAT and corporate tax revenue. These funds are critical for the National Development Plan's goals of improving health and education. The success of a 24-hour economy rests on three critical enablers: Energy Security: Constant power is the lifeblood of this model. Continued investment in solar and hydro diversification is non-negotiable. Transport & Security: Public transport must be available and safe at all hours to ensure workers can commute without fear. Labour Rights: Stronger enforcement of labor laws will be needed to ensure that "24-hour" doesn't mean "overworked," protecting the welfare of shift workers. Zambia's move to a 24-hour economy is an admission that the global market doesn't wait for the sun to rise in one specific region. By unlocking the night, we are unlocking our future. Let's go.

@ukusefya It seems that funding to increase the number of Members of Parliament is quite readily available, which is quite surprising.

Something fundamentally wrong about a country’s healthcare budget being dependent, indefinitely, on other governments. We owe our mortgaged lives to them. Clearly, no lessons from the COVID crisis when entire continent was left scrambling, and waiting on the benevolence of others to donate vaccines.

@Neliswa_Nelli The rise in autism diagnoses is mainly due to better awareness, improved diagnosis, and broader definitions of Autism Spectrum Disorder. More children are screened earlier, so cases once missed are now identified. Autism isn’t new, we’re just recognizing it better.

Trade Kings is probably the best homegrown success story coming out of this country in the last 30 years. You can fault their methods, but the quality of their product is beyond contest. For me, it says that this country can produce world-class enterprises if we believe in it.
