@robertbenzie It's crazy you get in trouble for heckling in parliament! That's the whole point! It's a performance art!

No Tories are daring to heckle Liberal MPP Stephanie Smyth today after Premier Doug Ford was forced to apologize to her last week for an angry tirade.

i think we're seeing with steyer a similar thing we saw with trump, especially in 2016. if you think american politics is bad because of undue influence of "elites" or corporate influences or corruption, then actually the ideal candidate is someone who is already extremely rich

@foolishyangban Politicians will prop up the steel industry forever. It could literally be one factory that employs 3 people and all politicians would line up to shovel cash. It's just how it is.

NEW: They’re calling it “Scarborough First.” Two candidates in the heated Liberal nomination contest in Scarborough Southwest have struck a deal to cross-rank, @policornerca has learned, in a push to send Nate Erskine-Smith home empty-handed on Saturday. policorner.ca/p/scoop-hafiz-…

@JungAristotle It's crazy to say this when he just signed a major trade agreement with China. Like Canada can get Chinese EVs now! That's a big deal!

Jean-Luc Mélenchon has just officially announced his candidacy for the 2027 presidential election. This is his fourth candidacy for the presidential election (2012, 2017, 2022 and 2027)

@BrandonAmyot This is pretty interesting. I imagine Canada probably has pretty high legislative turnover compared to other countries? Like half of congress in the USA has probably been in their seats since the 90s.

And there are are only 24 MPs left who were elected prior to the 2011 election: 1984 - 1 1993 - 1 1999 - 1 (by-election) 2000 - 3 2004 - 8 2006 - 4 2008 - 5 2010 - 1 (by-election)
Fraser 🏳️‍🌈🇨🇦@fp_905

Today, there are only 9 MPs in the House from the class of 2011: - Albas (CPC) - Boulerice (IND) - Casey (LPC) - May (GPC) - Menegakis* (CPC) - Rempel Garner (CPC) - Seeback* (CPC) - Strahl (CPC) - Williamson* (CPC) *MPs without consecutive terms

@fp_905 The 2015 election was really insane, imagine telling someone right after this election that the next election result would be a liberal majority.

Today marks 15 years since the 2011 federal election. A historic election in many ways. - Best ever NDP result + Off Opp - Worst ever Liberal result - Worst ever BQ result - 1st Green MP elected This is also the last election Conservatives won. #cdnpoli

@CFC_GafferV2 I'm skeptical of that. Polanski rose up in opposition to starmer who literally no one likes. Carney is very popular. The Conservatives in Canada are also in the dumps so Avi can't even rise in opposition to them. I think Avi will probably restore the party to around 10-15 seats.

Avi Lewis is gonna have the Polanski green surge moment for the progressives in Canada and the next year or so. Funny how it's the NDP here and not the actual GREEN party cuz they're so washed

@cari_jhel @BraydenBoulan The big issue for the NDP is that I don't think that federalist voters in Quebec will respond to that stance, and I'm skeptical sovereignist voters will back the NDP over the Bloc. That happened once when the Bloc and libs had super hated leaders. The ABC rallied behind them.

@Tomatoninja2000 @BraydenBoulan also, what sovereigntism looks like varies wildly from person to person. the sovereigntist MPs that have been in the NDP differ in vision to the BQ, that's why they're in a different party!!

honestly I care a lot more about an MP's fiscal and social policy than if they're a sovereigntist. and if you defend marilyn gladu being in the LPC caucus, I don't give a shit about anything you have to say, you have no fucking right to act like you suddenly have principles

@cari_jhel @BraydenBoulan The NDP letting separatists into Caucus is obvious political opportunism. Like Boulerice was a separatist then a federalist then a separatists again. Did he change his mind? Or was he just lying? All parties are full of political opportunists.

@BraydenBoulan having a party full of opportunists who flipped their principles on a dime to join the government caucus doesn't seem like a viable long-term strategy, but hey, what do I know?

@treeaston It's crazy because Schumer also backed Peltola, Brown and Cooper who are all great picks. Like could you not back a random state rep or something rather than a woman older than God?

She had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the race. Campaign had no heart and she never seemed to have the fire in the belly. As much as what Platner has built is undeniably impressive, this feels more like a statement on Schumer’s recruiting prowess than anything else.
Sahil Kapur@sahilkapur

Quite the moment in what may be Democrats’ own tea party era. Janet Mills is the prototype for party establishment’s candidate (center-left, experienced, polished, politically tested). She not only loses but drops out before the primary against a political novice and outsider.

@historyrant @TheAleksee Canadian Politics is different because in Canada the Dems would be spilt between the Liberals, NDP and Bloc. But also there is much more broad agreement on policy among Canadian political parties. They all agree on universal healthcare, building more housing, etc.

@TheAleksee Although Canadian politics seemed way more similar to American politics back in 2023 when Trudeau was in power, the country seemed way more divided. Since then, ideological polarization just seems way less a factor.
